Hi,

I’ve put a shimano 11 speed cassette on an old 2008 of mavic crossmax st rear wheel.

I tried a 1.8mm spacer on the freehub and there was still lots of play in the cassette.

2.5mm and the cassette lock ring wouldn’t catch into the free hub.

After much faffing I found a 2mm spacer. This topped the play and the lock ring fitted fine.

This is all measured on cheap digital calipers so might be off a little.

Fine.

Went for a ride and the lock ring has caught on the frame and unlocked. This has stopped the wheel dead.

I’m waiting to be picked up to avoid the walk of shame home!

How do I get this combo to work?

Is it worth buying a 1.8mm spacer?

The spacer I have seems to be a solid ring of aluminum. I’m sure I’ve had cassette spacers that had a texture milled into one side.

Cheers for any suggestions.

Should be 1.85mm.

Doesn’t matter If the back is machined or not.

Just make sure the last cog of the cassette is correctly seated before you tighten the lock ring.

Thanks, I’m sure I had the cogs seated.

The frame and wheel were fine with 10 speed.

Solved!

There was a small washer missing inside the freehub.
