Toying with the idea of a road or cross bike for my commuting, for part of the year anyway. First hurdle is sizing - I have no idea what it all means whereas I can get MTB sizing about right from the numbers.

Me - 5' 11", 32.5" inseam. Ride 18" Explosif (23.2" top tube - a bit small), Large Turner 5 Spot (23.9" TT - a tad too large), and a 18" Ti456 (23.6" TT - spot on).

So, what size road or cross bike would be about right?

Yes, yes, yes ... I will try out before buying.

Thanks

Agree.
Cross - probably 55 to 56cm effective top tube.
Road - probably 56 to 57cm effective top tube.

I'm same size as you and had an 18" Inbred.

Ride a 56cm Scott Road bike and cross bike.

Thanks all - just got back to the thread but we seem to have a consensus.

i'm the same size as you and usually ride a 56cm, although i've got a 54 Kinesis Tripster as they come up a little large and that fits fine too.
