Bought some mudguards (SKS Chromoplastics) so now I need to get some P-clips to fit them, as my bike (Rock Lobster 853) doesn't have the required holes by the rear axle (which is odd given that it does have the mounting holes in the chainstay and seatstay bridges).

Stig Fasteners have a good range of stainless steel P-clips with nice rubber backing, but anyone got any idea what size I need?

Is "20mm P-clip" a length? Diameter? Radius? With or without rubber bit?

Also, can you get really big P-clips that are big enough to go round a fork leg (Reba)? Or do I need another bodge for that?

Close an adjustable spanner gently on the stay at the point where the clip is to fit. Remove and hold spanner against measuring tape. The gap will equal the size you require. The 20mm is the diameter and takes account of the rubber sleeve.

I used 20mm P clips to attach stuff to the integral frame of a Kona Ute. I'd be very surprised if a steel hardtail needs such big clips.

Plumbing / heating, auto electrics and kitcar websites will sell oversize p-clips for your forks.

Good luck with fitting full guards to a suspension fork 😉

Cool thanks. 🙂

Yeah that's going to be bodge-tastic - but the crudcatchers are just not cutting it on my commuter in this [s]horrible winter[/s] glorious summer weather.

Nice. Hose clip then punch a hole in the tail?

How did you mount it at the fork brace? Or does your fork have a hole there? (mine doesn't)

I'm sure theres much neater solutions but thats what I had sitting in the garage!

For the arch I used two cable ties through the tab on the sks's- to keep it as high as possible. Works fine with tyres up to 2.1". Its been on there for a good few hundred miles now - obviously not off road - just canal paths kind of stuff.

Looks good to me. Only thing I'd add is a bit of inner tube behind the metal to protect the fork a bit.

if cable ties on the fork brace work then that'll do me too. Cheers.
