Massive birthday approaching so I'm thinking of treating myself to a new (or new to me) frame. SS specific, ideally with trackends 29er or even a really bling non disc 26" wheeled beauty.....I'm small so take a 16" frame, so Jones and Stooges are out. It'll also need to pass my new test...if I look at my new frame and end up running round the living room with my shirt over my head and my arms out stretched, hopefully it'll be a keeper....please recommend me something awesome.......

Go think about what you've done. Only THEN you can have a birthday...

I regret selling my mk1 Ritchey P29er which had adjustable drop-outs. Alternatively, Singular Swift but it has an EBB?

Curtis and and older Ritchey P29 are on the list. Just a case of finding one.....Singular, if it wasn't for the EBB again a possibility.....

Treat yourself to something custom. You won't regret it.

The problem for me with custom is I'm not sure what I'd want Building would be rideable. Plus most of the custom frame makers I really like are in the States, so with import duty, shipping and VAT it gets quite expensive.....I do have a Curtis BMX frame which is a thing of beauty and often kick myself for not buying a Ritchey when they were in the shops.....

I don't know if it's going to be be quite the style you're looking for but if I was going for a really flash, very very fast singlespeed then I'd be looking at the Pivot Les as an option.

Less out and out carbon XC alternatives on my list would be the Chameleon or even the Stache. I reckon a rigid 29+ singlespeed would be a lot of fun.

Swanny, nice but I'm more into all day trail riding those are lovely but I think I'm old school steel. Plus I have some nice components plus 29er (or v bling non disc 26" wheels) I'd like to use....

Maybe give Travers Bikes a shout out...

There MAY be a SS Angus left over - he only made 4 of the frames (2 med, 2 large) available for general sale - that frame (Ti, not steel) coupled with the Prong fork is it its own world of ridiculousness with regards to how a rigid SS rides... it’s like a rat up a drainpipe when going up, and feels like a trail bike dozing on a sofa on the way down!!

Sooooo good...

Can't fault you on steel, Solaris is my main bike. I'd still recommend having a go on a stache if you can find one, it might just change your mind. I only didn't buy one because I was trying to buy a house at the same time. At some point I still might.

I've been looking at the Travers website. The Angus is superb looking. I like a minimalist look, but I've had Ti bikes and we me being so light I tend to get bounced out of the saddle. A used Ritchey P29 or custom are looking like the best options, unless something American turns up, I do like IF and always wanted a Soulcraft Plowboy.......

I was about to suggest IF. Lovely, lovely frames 😎

I've got a 1998 IF SS Deluxe, bought from a chap on Retrobike a few years back (I won't say how much for, but it was a seriously good deal!)

Rides like a dream, and looks properly cool.

Also to consider..... what about a DeKerf?

Pic......

A Stanton with the single speed drop outs? Could go for the Ti version.

Although because the brake mount doesn't move with the dropouts, it won't have the same ease of tensioning as an EBB.

Also registering my interest in a steel 26" singlespeed - to replace my Dialled Love/Hate that was sadly stolen recently.

Is it just me or are there less off-the-peg singlespeed frames at the moment?

Swift +1

Never had so much as a squeak out of my EBB. My only qualm is it's now 600euro for the frame + forks, which is getting into the sort of territory occupied by frames at least made from 631 or 753, and it still doesn't have a tapered steerer so you're limited to the matching fork. Doesn't change the fact it's a lovely bike to ride and look at and I seriously regret selling mine.

Is it just me or are there less off-the-peg singlespeed frames at the moment?

Maybe they've been  a victim of the last 10 years of low/none/negative wage growth meaning people no longer N+1 in quite the same way?  Looking back at the mid/late 2000's when On-One, Dialled, Cotic, Pipedream, Singular and probably others were all making fairly iconic singlespeeds, they've almost all gone or changed dramatically. Shame because with all the changes in frame design over that period you'd think that small brands like On-One who self proclaimed to be small and better able to react to new niches quickly would have really done well (instead of becoming the bike equivalent of sports direct and groupon selling others bankrupt stock).

On-one are discontinuing the Inbred.

Cotic dropped the simple and seems more focused on the rocket.

Pipedream disappeared until they launched the moxie.

Singular are still available via the german distributor, but as I said above the exchange rate makes them unatractive.

Surly and Salsa, still making new bikes although harder to get hold of than they used to be.

Stanton are all a bit enduro rather than XC/singlespeed.

One for recommending a bike they own. What about a Niner Sir 9? EBB has been problem free for a couple of years now which is a completely new experience for me! Makes wheel/tyre repairs a sinch.

I had a 26" (geared) Indy Fab built for me in 2008, still use it nearly every week (although it has been relegated to commuting duties). It still puts a smile on my face every time I see it (which helps motivate me to commute). Components have changed a bit since this photo:

...Singular, if it wasn’t for the EBB again a possibility…..

Don't penalise Singular for the shit EBB arrangements on some other frames. On the Singulars I had, the EBBs worked perfectly, and it is the best method for a SS IMO.

A curly, a whirly? 😉

What model? I've got a couple of 'Burly' bikes (Krampus that gets a lot of use, and an original Instigator frame that's currently a wall hanger).

Have fun 😎

I reckon I'd have normally picked up a similar thread on the UK fat bike forum (RIP?) so missed this till now!

I'd have suggested the Brother cycles Big Bro perhaps. But as a Surly fan I'm looking forward to see what you have added to the collection.
