I'm loosely considering a frugal singlespeed (not fixie) to add some training value to my commute, but struggling to find many off the peg options. Ideally a 29er with flat bars and dirtrodz but a roadie style would be OK. Things I know: Spesh Langster, Genesis DayOne, Kona Paddy Wagon TT.

What else is there?

singlespeed is a brutal torture you inflict on a previously well-loved bike.

Have previously inflicted it on my KHS Montana Comp 1993. It got nicked - haterz will hate.

No suitable ex-bike just now.

Just seen 13thFloorMonk's charge plug, though and I like.

I’ve got a Charge Plug SS CX too - got a Grinduro one unused. It’s a great commuter

I know you said not fixed but.

Honestly. On road singlespeed is grim fixed gear doesn't feel so grim when you reach spinout speed because you jyst let your legs go with the pedals.

Second hand inbred 29er or similar

Looking at on-one prices, its barely worth going 2nd hand. I'm feeling some strong nostalgia for this from having a 26" years ago.

Yeah me too.. It's a bit style over substance.. A rather rash purchase I have come to regret..

What size inbred would suit as a mate is selling a 19.5” slot dropout 29er for £60?

Used paddy wagon. Older ones have slightly racier geometry. Or a Langster if you want lighter alloy. And fixed wheel. It's so much nicer.

BMC MC01. I found a secondhand one and love it as a commuter. Belt drive brilliance.
