What Single-speedable HT frame?

Morning all.

My Ragley BigWig has been my SS HT (using a BB-mounted tensioner) for a few years now, but it's a bit tatty, the seatpost is seized into the frame, and so I'm toying with the idea of upgrading the frame.

Ideally, I'd like a frame with dedicated dropouts for easy singlespeeding.

Trail geometry, so 130-150mm fork, 64/65° HA. 29er wheels.

Not fussed on material.

Not a huge budget, so likely to be looking for a good new frame deal, or something used (in a medium).

What's out there ...?

The Transition TransAM has sliding dropouts too, if you can find one.

Identiti aka would be cheap and decent. A medium on ebay for not much. Get some plumbers freeze spray and blast that in the seattube from the bottle bosses mount and you can usually crack free the seatpost. You would get an ok amount for a bigwig second hand with that done.

Pipedream Moxie 😎

I went from a Ragley Bluepig to a Moxie, mostly because of the ability to SS it. I picked up a mint frame on eBay for £200.

A secondhand Moxie or Sirius (one of the more recent ones) is a good call. If you order a new one I'm not sure you'll actually get it in a timely fashion as Pipedream appear to be a in bit of a muddle...

I'm pretty sure the Kona Honzo and Honzo ESD have sliding dropouts too.

Yeah - me too - I've had a tab open on my browser for weeks now. At the minute, it's probably favourite, but there's little in the way of reviews about it, so no idea how it rides (light/stiff/harsh/responsive etc). Also, I like the look of steel frames; a used Pace 529 would be a serious contender, but they don't seem to come up very often, hence me starting this thread for other options to look out for.

You could look at an external eccentric bottom bracket and use that to tension whichever regular frame you want.

I've used the First Components version and been really pleased with it, I think VeloOrange and Phil Woods do one as well.

Kona Unit also come in single speed flavour. There’s a large on eBay for £200 right now. A Honzo ESD would be my choice, always really fancied one but too close to some of my other bikes to be able to justify.

I rate my pace rc627, but obviously wrong wheel size. Their rc629 is currently on sale, however. Sliding drop outs are set and forget. Might be able to find the previous version rc529 second hand for cheap on ebay etc.

Very happy with my On-One Huntsman, but they don't sell them anymore (Seems a shame that on-one don't have a sliding dropout bike in their line up). I got mine from ebay pretty much brand new. There is a nice custom sirius frame on pinkbike which I was tempted by but the 142mm rear spacing would've meant buying another rear wheel and the fact it is a pre-production one and I had a pre-production Ti Pipedream Modro back in 2005 and it was a bit of a PITA so I think I'm always a bit wary of that.

This thread got me searching for a picture of the Modro. The EBB was completely useless and took up zero slack in the chain. This was the first ride out on it. Had to buy a half link in the end. IMG_1312.jpeg

I am not a photographer but as a layman I do tend to prefer promo pictures that actually show the bike 😂

Any steel or ally bike with a PF30 bb can be a svelte singlespeed with a Rideworks PF30 EBB 🙂  Not recommended for light carbon frames though
