In the market for something new.

Last shorts I bought were endura singletrack 2 but I'd like something a bit cooler for day rides and stretchy for comfort.

Any recommendations?

I really over heat in baggies.

However Humvee lights are brilliant I haven't had to put any extra holes in them!

Wish they were just a little bit longer.

Madison, only shorts I ever wear, available in loads of bike shops, and a brilliant warranty too.

Specialised Enduro shorts at the moment. Like them so much recently bought another pair when I saw them discounted.

For warm, Fox Rangers, Endura MT500 Spray, Madison Trail(?), for hot Troy Lee Designs Skyline Air Shorts - definitely didn't pay anywhere (in 2017 £41) near what they're going for on CRC currently, and they looked different :-O

- the troy lee are the stretchy ones, really light too, and the Endura while not stretchy are are also really lightweight, but both seen no issues at all with durability.

I’ve been using hummvees for 15+ years. Used all year round for touring, trail, DH. Also great for nipping the shops, holidays, diy, hiking.

my new/10mnth old hummvee light are Fading and fraying on the arse, seam has split at the crotch and the new pocket design catches on the seat causing mine to rip.

I’m also in the market for something new 😡

Incredibly ancient and indestructible Altura Mayhems (I got one set free with an MBUK sub in 2010 I think). And some Altura Attack and Tenn waterproofs.

Keep to hear about long-lasting shorts for hot weather that don't cost a fortune.
I can't seem to get more than a year out of a pair. TLD, Fox, I wear a hole in the bum and end up patching them 🙄

Maloja ones working for me. Light, good fit and non baggy gusset to avoid saddle hookups after steep downhills

Troy Lee Ruckus here. Don’t but anything else as I only get annoyed by how rubbish they are.

Not cheap. But good.

Very cold - Madison DTE soft shell- very comfy and warm.

Wet - Madison 4 season - I cant cope with full waterproof so the waterproof bum patch is a good compromise, comfy and quite warm , side zips help for airflow.

Hot - Fox Ranger 4 way stretch things - only wear when very hot as they are delicate and are getting that shiny stretched arse patch from the saddle. I dont think they would take repeated regular wear.

Rest of the time - Fox Altitudes - if there is a cold wind you feel it but a nice general short for 3 seasons use.

I have some Nukeproof outland shorts that I've had for about a month. Nice and light with a bit of stretch, happy so far and they've lasted longer than some Endura shorts I've had. I have some older Dakine shorts that have been bombproof but the last pair were thinner and have more signs of damage than the older ones.

Ebsura Mt500s for winter Madison dwr ones were brilliant, but gave up after 2 winters

For summer I've got some very light one industries ones, seem a bit fragile but tbf lasted a while, some oldish dakine ones that just keep on going & very comfortable.

Don't buy alpinestars, made of tissue paper !

Pearl Izumi Summit shorts, I use them all year round, DWR and stretchy with a slim fit so it doesn't flap around the knee.

I've just bought a pair of Humvee chino shorts, and they're awesome. The liner is a bit snug possibly due to my homeworking proximity to the kitchen more than anything else.

I've been using some Dakine Syncline for a few months. Light and a bit of stretch. Think I paid about £30 for them. Can't comment on longevity yet but so far, so good.

just bought some Troy Lee Designs Skylines – 2019 model going cheap and they are so comfy I have hardly taken them off! Ride in em, live in em! And they have a decent ethical footprint. Light, a bit stretchy, soft, well shaped

Endura Humvee: The waist button popped off soon into ownership, thankful for the strap! Still in use durable and reasonable water resistance.

TLD Rukus: My fave, nice balance of stretchy-ness comfort and protection. Like wearing off the bike but the leg air vent zip one one side has got stuck.

Alpinestars Hyperlight: Lightest most airy shorts I have. Ideal for summer but can see them ripping easy in a decent crash. Already one or two small holes, but still in service.

Rukus is my favourite and worn the most. Others are worn when the weather is at the extremities. Will most like buy another pair of Rukus shorts when the time comes.

I have a pair of Norrona Fjora's, they are good fitting, light and cumfy.
However after about a year of riding in all weathers the rear seams are now wearing through.
Probably my fault as they are more of a summer short, will be buying more when i can convince myself the cost is worth it.

Endura singletrack lite, red ones. They're cool! Pockets are not very big though and no back pocket apart from a little zippy bit on the back of the waist band.

Rockrider ST900. First pair lasted around 5 years of constant wear and all weathers before the saddle wore a hole. Light, stretchy, zip pockets and a good fit.

Madison Roam shorts for holidays, working from home and gentle rides (I keep them in good nick as they're my posh going out shorts when on holiday, the only pair that the wife will tolerate!).

Troy Lee moto's for riding mostly, the moto 2s are lighter and my current favourite.

I have an old pair of Royal shorts that I've ridden in for years that still look brand new, so I'm going to buy another pair of them this year.  Along with another pair of Roams as wfh is looking like a longer term proposition...
