What second hand XC hardtail

Changing a few bikes to suit what I'm actually riding. I would like to find a cheap XC hardtail. The stuff I'm riding through the week is easy mountain bike (Beamish/Chopwell/Gallagher Park if you are in the NE). Plenty of dirt tracks to actually get anywhere fun. My Scandal is just a bit sluggish and the gravel bike insufficient when I get to places. So I thought I'd either try and make the Scandal more XC changing the tyres and position a bit. But I'm also thinking of replacing it with a XC hardtail. As with my beefy bike thread (sorted thanks!) I'm looking for recommendations on what might be a good second hand bike. Setting up searches on Facebook, ebay, pinkbike etc.

I'm thinking Scott Scale, Sonder Dial, Vitus Rapide type bikes but would rather buy second hand and get a bit more.

100mm travel, ideally newer XC geometry (68ish, not supper steep), short dropper compatible. Could just look at frame and forks as most bits I have on the Scandal.

Whippet or some cheap wheels off Superstar for your Scandal?

I second the Whippet suggestion.

How tall are? I’m selling this one - in York. Happy to come down in price if you’d collect, rather than me posting!
Thanks ryan

Whippet +1

Or if you can wait for china shipping, I’m still happy with my Airwolf (yfm-026 I think). Similar geo and dropped seat stay look to a SC Highball.

How tall are you jonba

I've got a brand new Titus El Viajero frame I was going to build up as a custom build (can't send it back, bought it as a full bike and stripped it), but health issues have conspired against me this year and going to be many months before I can ride a bike again so it's absolutely surplus to requirements right now... Fits the bill at least, 100mm fork designed, 68.5HA, takes a dropper post, would suit most of the parts off your Scandal and there's some nice 100mm SID's on CRC for silly cheap at the moment that would suit...

5'10 or 178cm. Think I'd seen the one on pinkbike and it's too large. I'm a Med or Large depending on the brand.

Whippet will go on the list but the basic spec isn't great. That's why I'd rather find something a few years old.

I did change the 35s on my Scandal to Rebas shortly after I bought it (130mm that won't go any shorter annoyingly). Also got some DT swiss M1900 wheels on that aren't superlight but not as heavy as the stock wheels. I've messed around putting some XT tyres on, dropping the front end and putting on a longer stem to see if that helps. It shouldn't be that slow but it feels it.

I've just picked up (in a swap deal) a Scott Scale 910 and I'll tell you what, its bloody good, after a few years as XC FS ownership I'm loving the addition of an XC HT to the bike options. The cheaper alloy ones are well worth a look, same geo, bit heavier but equally well specc'd my eldest lad has a Scale 950, the alloy one and its a great bike which can be found for not a lot of cash.

Specialized Chisel. Around 1600g for the frame, reportedly good ride quality for alloy. Used frames are rare but used bikes often come up around a grand.

Or as others have said Scott Scale.
