Cos I’m a numpty and actually CRUSHED my Thomson elite jobbie fitting the ruddy tag-along trailer!!!
Eek..
So..I’ll leave the tag along on the ruined one, which means I need a replacement 31.6 seatpost for my Tripster (road/gravel/turbo) bike..
I WOULD go for another Thomson elite, but stock is super low, and they’re about £80-90 now...
Carbon..?? Not really much lighter that the alu?
Want inline, 31.6...
Also..want it to be nice..year, I’m a snob with this bike!!
In honesty, I’ll prob pay out for Thomson again so it matches the stem..but what’s the cool post du-jour....

What length? I might have a used Thomson. Sure there's about 4 in my spares bin.
One that drops with the graceful caress of a lever.
I think it's a 400mm one, but really a 350mm would be fine...
Black
31.6

(I realise that reads like a Tinder bio...)
I would have to get another Thomson as my post MUST match my stem
Thomson aren't that strong- not in a "lol weak" way but in a really engineered, strength where it needs it, none where it doesn't way that doesn't always adapt well to stuff that it was never designed for. So I wouldn't take it as meaning you need a super strong post but you maybe shouldn't get another thomson- something ironically a bit less well engineered

TBH I'd take that as an opportunity to replace post and get a better stem at the same time tbh, the posts are great but the stems are worse than most OEM. Not especially light, delicate bolts, and still the only brand in the world that thinks faceplates are a consumable and that it's normal for them to crack in normal use and OK to charge for a replacement when it does.
Ritchey - looks nice, the seat clamp works well, and the "Ritchey" lettering on the side is handy for getting it at the right height (no sign of rubbing off either). And about half the price of the Thompson.
I really like this on my gravel bike.
Does seem to dampen trail buzz.
Yes I know it’s from them, but I’ve been ok buying from them. Though I paid a little less.

Put a nylon plug in the bore, in the area you want to compress. This will support the tube walls and you can squeeze it as hard as you like then. If youre a clever thing you could get a plug made with a metal thread inserted , so if the wall collapses onto the plug and jams it, you could use a slide hammer to get it out, should you ever need to.
Just an idea like, you could use a Thomson again then.
*assuming that the bore is clear and doesnt have any extrusions in it, ike another post i've seen somewhere.
Cheers... the crushed post is residing to stay forever crushed - it's still functional (i hope), but will get a replacement.
It also means i won't be riding round with the heavy tag along bit ALL the time..

Get a £10 eBay steel one and cheap saddle and another Elite.
I meant to get your new Thomson post and put the plug in that. Your old seatpost has now been promoted to Chief Allen Key handle extension. Cooler than anything Park make.
Get a stronger one. Or get 2 stronger ones as the crushed one is seriously weakened and should be chucked in the recycling

I agree, if it’s actually crushed.
The strength comes mainly from the shape, not the material. If the tube shaped is borked then I’d not be sitting on top of it.
I especially wouldn’t be towing my kids from it either.
