The title is the question in a nutshell.  I want to try a set of road bars on one of my bikes.  Have got the bars, just need the shifters (and brakes).

Hydraulic brakes would be prefered, particularly if they work with Shimano calipers, but cable operated would be fine and dandy ... and probably simpler.

I'm assuming I'm more likely to need to go for the far east brands rather than anything mainstream?

You could do it with Shimano GRX shifters and a GRX rear mech. I've got a set of GRX 1x12 shifters that I keep meaning to put on the classifieds.

That will do a 10-51 cassette by design

Shimano compatibility charts are what you need...

But yes, GRX is your most likely ally in this one.

That is the upgrade that my Sonder Camino came with. The rear mech is a Shimano GRX RX822 SGS.
