I use michelin pro 4 service course tyres. Never had a problem with them. Usually can be found for around £20 each too.

Me personally, GP4000S in 25c flavour, can be bought cheap and loads of grip.

Standard STW answer... Conti GP 4 Seasons for a year round tyre, or Conti GP4000 for mostly dry use, with the occasional pitch for the Pro 4 and the Ultremo.

Un standard answer

I am lovin the PX RageK's atm. Folding, grippy, belted, £9.99 in 23c! Defo staying on for the alps. The much lauded and bloomin pricey GP4000s' were a fail for me last year, cut to shreds and punctures, rubbish.

Yep! Running 28mm Conti 4 Seasons here year round on road and bridleway/cycle path. I like em.

Love stw tyre threads 😀 Gp4000s for me, grippy, fast rolling thousands of miles on rubbish roads, no cuts and very rarely pucture LOL.

Light and roll nicely, but mine have been puncture prone. My GP 4 seasons seem a bit tougher.

Verdestein fortezza tricomp or Michelin pro 4. Veloflex masters are very nice but not cheap and wear fast.

Vittoria Open Corsa CX's, lovely lovely ride quality, sound great when motoring along, and offer loads of grip.

I'd stick with Schwalbe Ultremo's. I really rate the DD models for puncture resistance and speed etc

Schwalbe One. In 25c. With latex tubes. A nicer compound with a faster cornering profile. Have ridden and raced 23c Ultremo ZXs, but the Ones feel faster - whatever that's worth. In fact, with latex tubes, they feel like tubulars.

+ 1 for conti GP 4000's 3000 miles off my last set and only replaced due to biffa mate riding it round dodgy parts of Belgium and getting sidewall cuts.

+ another for GP4000S - 3 years winter and summer riding with only one puncture (due to hitting a pothole). Just about to change them with a new set as rear is very worn.

I'll echo Duff's Veloflex Masters in 25mm flavour.

I had Ultremo R1s and got a sudden sidewall blowout down Box Hill.
I do not rate these!! Expensive for the couple hundred miles they did.

Verdestein fortezza tricomp have been the tyre of choice these last couple years. Superb grip in all weathers ( except ice of course ) and took high pressure so pinch flats were never a prob.
Have a set of schwalbe Ultremo zx on the Super6 for the dry rides, and they have been really good too.

Previous Michelin prorace3 tyres were good grip, but got cut up badly after a couple rides. Found I had to replace them because of the cuts long before the tread had worn through.

Care to explain that exploding sidewall on the gp4000s tyre you had at Usk last year Col?

That is the reason I have avoided then since ..

I've been using Conti 4000s for ages. Used to use 23mm, but have picked up some 25s and have ridden them twice now. Seem OK - slightly comfier, and they seem to roll better. Weirdly, I had my first puncture in ages today; nice cut through to the casing but it will survive!
