I've currently got a 6 year old trek 1400 56cm and quite fancy something carbontastic to whizz around on in the summer.

Looking to spend £1500 - £2000(at a push)..

I quite like the look of the Cube Agree GTC pro at the moment but wondered if there were any other recommendations?

Thanks

Planet X
Ribble

Custom build on one of those carbon frames off ebay

Cycling Plus in their Bike of the Year give high ratings to: Cannondale SuperSix 105 (£1799) - 5 stars
Specialized Roubaix Comp (£1999) - 4.5 stars
Raleigh SP Race (£1899) - 4.5 stars
Storck Scenero (£1999) - 5 stars - and awarded Bike of the Year
They also give the Cube Agree GTC Pro (£1499) - 4.5 stars

PlanetX don't really do it for me, don't know why.

I like the look of that canyon! i've never tried a campag setup though.

That canyon gets very good stuff said about it, but its the spec as well Chorus complete groupset, plus good wheels etc. Last few months I think that would take some beating on paper if its the kind of thing you're after. Its light too. A lot of £2k bikes still come with pretty rubbish wheels that are just training wheels really... those ones are a bit better.

There's so much choice out there though.

Felt F5. BikeRadar seem to lurve it. Or you could just about squeeze an Argon 18 Krypton for under £2k, and that is a phenomenal bike.

Edited. Krypton, not Radon.

The Storck Scenero at £2000... Looks the business too

Though I'd probably give the Cannondale SuperSix 105 and the Giant TCR Composite 1 a good look in too myself...

Epic Cycles have some really nice Bianchis under 2k. The Storck looks great too.

Quite a variation of bikes being discussed here - e.g. The PX and the Cannondale are quite sharp-handling racers and the Cube GTC Agree is more a comfy-sportive type of thing (nearest Cannondale would be a Synapse).

To the OP (and anyone else considering one) the 2011 GTC Agrees are already in fairly short supply. As it was our best-selling bike last year, we've snapped up a couple extra (I already have mine - planning to build it up on Saturday).

I've got a 2010 Cube Agree GTC Race and absolutely love it. I don't have a huge knowledge or background in road bikes but I find it very comfortable and fast over a distance compared to other road bike I have owned/ridden.
One word of warning which is pretty common knowledge is that Cube's come up small and in my case I bought a 58cm which in reality is more like a 56cm.

My LBS put together a Lynskey Cooper with an unused (taken off another bike) Chorus 11 speed group for me for £2k. Could do with a wheel upgrade though to make it really hot.

You could get something pretty special second hand for that sort of money.

Don't rule out the Planet X Nanolight Hi-Mod. In recent years, I've had a Litespeed titanium, and an S-Works Roubaix and they've been excellent frames, but I must say, my current PX is a really superb bike, and that's not factoring into account it being a fraction of the price of the other two.

I have no experience whatsoever of SRAM road kit, but this for £1500 is a blooming steal if you ask me.

Mine's built with Dura Ace 7800, Pro bars, stem & post, Ksyrium Elites, and FSA carbon cranks and comes in at well under 17lbs... and it rides like a dream. I genuinely highly recommend you at least swing a leg over one! 🙂
