Our 9 y/o daughter has just started at the local MTB club, which is obviously great, and she's having a ball.

We need to make up a riding pack for her, which has got all the standard essentials in it, but she's quite small and I don't have a bag here that'll fit her nicely. Anyone have any recommendation on bags (hip pack or back pack) which fit kids nicely without leaving acres of strap to deal with?

I've an old camelback rogue that the kids used about that age and it didn't have too much in the way of straps. Can't for the life of me see anything on it that says a size though.

Camelbak do a little pack for kids. 1.5l reservoir and just enough space for a jacket rolled up and toolkit but not too big to alter balance.

Both my kids used a Camelbak Skeeter. 1.5 litre bladder and enough space for a sandwich /snacks. Unfortunately no longer available.

Or just get them a small slimline kids pack from Decathlon or similar with a bladder/bladder pocket if desired. Both mine had this set up or a bottle in cage + light rucksack.

They grow so quick. My two are pretty tall but at 11 my younger one rides in my old LOBO and the older one my ancient Ventoux on longer rides and I just use a regular slimline hiking bag and bladder when I can't use one of those.

Unless you must have bike specific features then it's quite possible to save a few quid on short lived kit.

We used Salomon running packs for years - they do kids versions and small adult. They are lighter and more flexible than many of the bike specific.
I also bought them as my old employer got the Salmon UK clearout of salesmans samples each year - so good packs were £10....
In fact, I have a well used one I was going to offer to the neighbours - but OP would be welcome if you want.

Camelback mini mule here for my 7yo, can expand reasonably well, room for a light jacket, tow rope and snacks.

Thule do a youth version of the uptake that my kids used at that age, the magnetic  hose holder thingie is brilliant.

Not the cheapest option obvs

My 6yr old just started MTB Club and has the Mini Mule. Really good for size. Drinks, snacks, room for a waterproof and a mid-layer.
he is 122cm tall and has the straps at the tightest.
