Not £350 - Chris King is a no go.
Not incredibly noisy - Hope are a no go.
Easy to service?
Not made by American Classic as I've just had my second freehub go, caused by a spring which would cost 5p if they sold one...which they don't, so you have to spend £60!
Errrr, that's it really.
DT 350
Nuke proof generator?m
Goldtec. Better than Hope, not as noisy, cheaper than King and spares can be bought for pennies.
DT240
Another thumbs up for Goldtec here.
Great hubs, great shop, great staff.
I was looking at the DT Swiss hub as a possible.
Never even heard of Goldtec.
Will definitely have a look at them.
Cheers.
Shimano?

Hope + grease the freewheel
oxymoron has the answer
Does this actually work then?
Was tempted by the availability and cheapness of spare parts but the clicky noise just puts me off.
On a separate note, don't seem to be able to find where you'd get spares for a goldtec hub?
Can't seem to find prices for free hub etc online.
definitely dt240 or whatever dt fits your budget
Just bought a complete freehub kit for my Goldtec hub. 10 yrs of running and needed a replacement. The service kit consisted of a new freehub, pawls, springs( no flexy rusty bits of steel plate), seal ( proper seal not the gash plastic hateful thing on a hope) new hub bearings and delivery was £58. So other than the axle and hub shell and end caps, it was all new. You have to call them for spares, but the bearings are in another league for smooth running compared to hopes I have and had. Buy British quality, not hopeless.
Does this actually work then?
It made a massive difference to my SS hub (which is arguably the loudest of all of them)- not completely silent but much, much quieter . I cleaned it all out and replaced it with Finish Line Wet lube 'cos I like the click 😀
No way I'm going for cup and cone hubs again.
I'm sure they're great if you take them apart once a month and service them, but the XT one I had was so badly sealed it just filled up with crud and wore the hub out.
It's a two minute job to pop the Hope freewheel off add some grease and pop it together again. No tools required.
The only problem is walkers and horse riders won't know you're behind them after you've done it.
My oldesst Hope hub is 18+ years old, and still on it's original bearings. Another set are 11+ years old and still on orignal bearings, absolutely perfect. I woudn't bother with Shimna, as the freehubs are very poor quality these days, and prone to failure im my experience/

That would be XC hubs, they are far better than the pro hubs. I have 2 rear hubs and wouldn't sell them ever. Pro 2's on the other hand are just not in the same league. No seals, no springs for pawls, lighter breakable hub flanges, fill with muck . Of course others will argue this case, but much happier now I have got them out the garage and off my bikes.
Hope XC and Bulb are awesome hubs. WHY did they change them???
DT240 for me. Easy to service, well, every once in a blue moon you have to engage the central bearing in a battle to the death. But they last a very long time, so it's swings and roundabouts, do you prefer a pain in the arse service very rarely, or an easy service frequently like Hope etc?
I have used Hope for years but not long ago bought a DT 350 and I am now a convert. Quieter and easier to mess with and no springs to break.
I think a DT 240 is the same but made to better tolerance, slightly lighter and made in Switzerland (350s made in Taiwan).
Are they worth the extra - it depends>
