I normally ride single speed but am finding i am riding in more hillier terrain and want to add a 1x11 geared setup.
I am asking what rear hub people would recommend. I am looking at the following:
Chris King
White Industries M16
DT Swiss 240
Industry 9
Hope
Is there any others i should be looking at? They need to be good quality/robust/serviceable.
At present i am being drawn towards White Industry as they can be easily serviced at home and dont require special tools.
Hope would be your best bet. They're pretty bombproof and are easily serviceable. If you don't like the hyper-clakyness of the hope hubs, DT swiss are also recommendable.
DT240 without question.
I haven't built the wheel yet, but I got a Nukeproof rear hub. I fancied something other than Hope.
I've got hope, chris king and DT on various bikes.
Firstly the Hope is functional but I hate the noise, it's on the DH bike so the noise doesn't really figure when riding properly
The Chris King is lovely, a joy to ride, touch, hear. It's been bombproof in reliability in the over five years of ownership.
The DT Swiss 240 is nice, a really nice hub, better finished then the hope but not in the CK league by a fair way.
although the CK is lovely, it's not worth the RRP. by all means get one if you see it discounted. I think I paid £220 for mine when they were £360. No idea how much they are now as that was over five years ago
If I was to start over, I'd be buying DT every time. Nice engagement, nice build, nice noise. If I saw a CK at similar reductions though, I'd be very tempted.
Dt for me
Just keeps working. Only issue is changing the bearing under the ring drive but that one seems to last ages
Although I have been impressed with the stans hubs too
Hope do make nice hubs. Spares are easy to get hold of, and they're easy to fix and maintain yourself. If it really goes wrong... even after a few years use... they'll replace it, no questions asked.
Oh and the clicking is great. tck tck tck tck 😀
Nukeproof Generators.
On the Winter hartail now .
4 years ,one set of bearings, easy to service.
