What length rear mech cage do I need if I am running a 32t single chainring and a 42t expander cog.

Medium or Long cage?

The latest thinking is to get an 11spd rear mech - they have the same pull ratio as 10 spd, and are designed to travel up a wide range cassette, so will shift a lot smoother.

Cool thanks guys.

I was planning on getting a XT M8000 rear mech for a bit of future proofing.

My medium SLX (10spd) just about copes with the 42t, I don't think it would go any bigger that's for sure.

strangely, my short cage zee FR mech works perfectly with a 30t front, 11-42 rear.

i really didn't expect it too, but I trashed my med cage XT and its all I had in the spares box.
