The lad's now big enough to strap to the back of the bike for less adventurous rides. From a quick look at the Halfords website I'm amazed at the variation in price.

What features should I be looking for? Do I need any additional accessories, like a pannier rack for it to sit on, or do they tend to be self-sufficient? I'm thinking of repurposing my hardtail (Spesh Hardrock) and keeping the FS for the fun stuff - any special mounting points I need which it's unlikely to have?

Hamax range comes with all the bits you need. Just a special clamp onto the seattube.

I'd recommend getting the reclining version - little h most likely will nod off.

Great fun. I spent many happy hours pootling around with my son in the Hamax. He's almost too big for it now. Make the most of it while you can.

I used CoPilot Taxi. Some quite long rides included. The best recommendation is that my daughter used to fall asleep during the rides and enjoyed her naps for hours - which means it has to be comfortable! 8)

Actually I still have the seat on the loft, quite good nick (Devon, Torbay area).

The Hamax website is a mess. I'm none the wiser which seat is the one to go for, or what age they go up to.

Medoramas - any pics of what you're looking to sell? I'm in Hants and have three kids under five

Might be worth considering a Wee Ride or similar. Plenty of folks on here (including me) prefer them to rear mounts.

I use a Co-pilot Limo which has the bonus that it fixes to a rear rack and can be removed pretty easily leaving you with just a err.. rack.. It has received great reviews re: safety in the event of a crash

They are a lot more solidly fixed than seatpost mounted seats though, which I've found gives more stability when riding, but gives the little 'un a much harsher ride meaning they're not suitable for any rough stuff strictly speaking (depending on your kids willingness to be shaken about and endure spine jarring etc)

not cheap either

We have a Hamax siesta which is a seat post mount with recliner and has been fantastic and enjoyed by both our children. I think they go up to child weight of about 15kg although I took our son out when he was a good bit heavier than that! Problem ibecomes with bike handling the front wheel is very light when they get heavy and the arms which hold the seat and offer some suspension flex too much so the seat can contact the rear tyre!

Caspian - if you're interested I am in Hampshire and have a Weeride classic to sell which we only used a couple of times before I was lucky enough to get a LOCT. Julian AT hopeandclay DOT com

+1 WeeRide. More protection for the wee man when the Mrs inevitably creams-in. Feels better balanced than a rear seat. And wee man can see where he's going too, rather than your sweaty back!

@ kirk92 i just emailed you re: the weeride, I didn't know such things existed, looks like it would fit our bill perfectly. If the other person wants it no bother, but do let me know 😉 thanks

Weerides are like marmite, you love them or you hate them.

I'm in the latter camp and much preferred a Hamax rear seat.
