I bought some prescription Bolle glasses and was shocked when they arrived as the lenses were so thick, even though I had paid for the thinnest they offered. On contacting the supplier I was told because of the size and curve of the lens this would be the end result. So what frames are people using that don't make you look like spud in the Trainspotting promo poster?
How strong is your prescription? Whate base frame do you want?
Rupp+Hubrach make lenses for high base frames but they're not cheap.
+550 -200, I'm open to which frames I get, more concerned they don't slip down my face.
I have a very odd prescription so wrap around sunglasses are not an option. I have had Oakley opthalmic frames before and put up with the reduced coverage.
I use Rx inserts in my Rydons. I have +5 and the thinnest high density plastic. The Rydons are transitions which I find excellent. Fogging is an occasional issue in the rain and fog. But I can wear ordinary glasses for that.
My new glasses are Oakley Tinclip titanium and carbon frames with varifocals. These are excellent and they have rubber nose pads and flat arms that grip the side of the head rather than wrap around the back of the ears.
I use a curved frame made by Shopic, which has the lenses mounted in a separate sub-frame. This has two advantages: it allows for a flatter lens and hence less distortion and it allows for a lens that's thicker at the edges. Not easy to find though, I think only opticians have access to the Shopic range.
My prescription is -12 left and -10.5 right, I use Rudy Project Maya which have reasonably flat mounting for the inserts with a flip-up ImpactX photochromic lens. My optician also reduced the size of the prescription lenses to suit me. They're also not too odd looking for after riding as they're a frame the RP sell separately without the outer lens.
Just ordered some Cebe ones with inserts.
RX did me some inserts for my Evil Eyes at +6.5 and +7. Had to shell out for the thinnest they could make them but they're fine in use.
