That I can keep a box of in the cupboard ready to stick in a jersey pocket or backpack, that isn't rock hard even when cold and feels like natural food, but isn't good enough tasting to tempt me to snack on when I am not riding?

Something between a powerbar petrochemical special, that I would rather die than eat, and a flapjack where I could sit down of an evening and just eat the whole box without a seconds thought.

Outdoor Provisions from FGF a few weeks ago have the balance right on this. Take one on a big hike/ride as backup, never tempted to eat them unless I'm flagging. Expensive though even with 30% off.

I like the Trek protien flapjack bars for this.  Can get a bit crumbly in a back pocket but I could eat a whole box, especially to coconut ones in one sitting.  They are quite moist and natural, also ethically sourced.

Veloforte - soft enough to chew, hard enough not to go soft in a pocket, and not so appealing in the cupboard at home.

Nutrigrain bakes for me. Work in all temps and not too crumbly. Don’t require an instant 2l of water to wash down before you can breathe either

Might have to fold it in half to get it in your jersey pocket, mind you.

Oooh, that flapjack looks good. I've gone off Clif bars as they're just a bit too artificial - I can't stomach more than 1, which for longer rides is a problem. I reckon solid flapjack could be a great alternative

I make my own. Some sunflower seeds blended, some chia seeds and linseeds, but of cinamon, vanilla essence, bit of golden syrup, blended bananas, chopped up apricots, oats spread over baking tray with greese proof paper about 1.5cm-2cm . Press down hard, 30minsish at 180.

Trek protein energy bars (not the protein flapjack, which are a bit nicer tasting) fit that bill for me - kind of tasty, but a bit of a weird taste so the box doesn't empty very quickly.

If I do start snacking on them at home, I always change my mind halfway through so there is at least half a bar left for the ride.

Peanut power or cocoa chaos - not much difference.

Buy a box off Amazon

These Cadbury Brunch bars

Usually come up in Tesco at £1 a box of six often enough that I haven’t paid full price for one in as long as I can remember. Easy to eat and actually really tasty, even just with water.

Along with bananas that’s my mid ride food covered.

That being said I did take a ham cheese and mayo roll along the other day. *Lots* of mayo. It was delicious as a savoury contrast to the sweet stuff.

Homemade flapjacks and keep them in the freezer. Throw one in your pack and it’ll thaw out by the time you want it.

Wish I never saw this thread! Looking online I just found trek white chocolate and raspberry flapjack bars! It’s taking all my will power not to buy all of them!
I’m too weak to have a box of those sat in the cupboard!

Clif for me. On offer at merlin at the mo. They’ll even put 12 in a box for you when you choose a load of mixed flavours.

Just the right balance of nice on the bike but Feel too much like a proper energy bar for dunking in tea at home!

Outdoor provisions are great - don’t taste like rubbish. They are expensive so also some Natural Valley protein thrown into the mix.

If oats are essential then a wheetabix between 2 thick slices of soreen malt loaf ... possibly easier to digest without the wheetabix so malt loaf it is

ITs not a flapjack but I spread peanut butter thick onto single slices of whole meal bread squish a little and put into titchy food bags - can wolf down on the move and feels like real food.  Also soreen fruit loaf with peanut butter and jam squished.  Sounds awful but on long ride can be eaten easily and really top up the tank.

😀 that's amazing - you've been riding for 2 hours so your mouth is a bit dry, so you pile a weetabix/ soreen sandwich into it LOL!
