Hi Guys, I’ve been through 3 Wahoo HR straps in about 18 months. The metal clasp corrodes and snaps off rendering it unusable.

Any recomended alternatives?  Must transmit Bluetooth as well as Ant+

Thanks

the straps don't transmit anything; that's the sender unit that (I assume) clips on - I don't have a wahoo one, are they not interchangeable mounts with other brands ?

Unfortunately it’s the sender unit that relies on the metal clasps. I could just get another strap but that won’t last long again....  The Garmin plastic clasps obviously didn’t have that problem. Unfortunately they don’t transmit Bluetooth.

Guess im looking for a Bluetooth HR monitor with plastic clasps.

I can't work out what you're saying - is it the studs on the sender that corrode or the "sockets" on the strap ?

(and don't say strap if you mean transmitter)

If it's just the strap, get a different brand (it's not the strap that determines bluetooth/ANT)

(consider some conductive grease on whatever part is corroding ?)

The transmitter unit connects to the strap with a metal clap. It would connect to any strap with a metal clasp in the same way.

It’s the socket that fails on this kind of strap.

Basically I think having a metal claps of any sort is a bad idea as salty sweat will corrode the metal.

I'm assuming you only want Bluetooth so you can use it with a phone as well as a computer/watch?

If so is it worth investigating a BT adapter (USB type dongle) so you can use a (more reliable and robust) Garmin HR strap?

OK, so the transmitter is OK?  If so all you need is a strap - any make will do since they don't do anything active, just conduct an electrical signal but they "all" will have metal sockets as they have to conduct from your skin into the transmitter via the strap.  I have a Garmin one, a Polar one and an eBay special.  They all work fine and none has disintegrated.  I do rinse them under the tap after every ride though.

You could try a wrist/armband style HRM. They don't use the same sort of metal studs to clip together anyway. Though they might wear out in some other way.

eg Wahoo Tickr Fit, or Scosche Rhythm 24.

I’m with the OP on this, but for slightly different reason. I’ve also gone through about three Wahoo BT/ANT+ chest straps+senders in last three years - the senders die, and/or the sensing pads on the straps separate from the strap material.

I need ANT+ for connecting to my Garmin when on the bike, and BT(LE) for connecting to my phone in spinning classes and when running.

Watching the thread with interest.
