I want to replace the Mavic Crossrides on my 2011 Yeti ASR5.

I will use the bike for mainly XC work, but with the occasional trip to Afan etc.

I had Hope Pro II Evo / Crests on my previous Turner Flux which were excellent and held true despite my 202 lbs bulk. I was however always nervous about bending them.

My options for the new bike are therefore as follows:-

* Hope Pro II Evo on Crests again.
* Hope Pro II Evo on Flows.
* Hope Pro II EVo on Arch EX.
* Crank Brothers Iodine 2 (with the improved freehub).
* Superstar Switch Evo on Flows

I genuinely am not sure which way to go. At the moment, the hoops of choice are Arch EX jobbies as they seem to be halfway between the Crests and the Flows.

The Iodine 2's come onto the radar screen as they are a bit different and bike-discount.de have them on sale at the moment for about £350.00 which is only £50.00 more than the Hope/Stans combos.

hmmm....

thoughts?

I was going for Stans Arch on my ASR5, until the Sun Ringle Black Flags on CRC went down to £175 over Christmas. Same brief as you.

Hope Pro II EVo on Arch EX. Got mine from Just Riding Along. I wanted something slightly meatier than Crests but not as much as Flows.

Worked well on my 5 (have I mentioned it was stolen last Monday?)

I have Arches on proII on my ASR5, all good. I used to have Crests on my old bike and at 13 stone didn't have a problem, the ARches do seem a bit stiffer though, but that could be wheel build. I prefer the width of the crests, not sure if the arch EX is any different from the old Arch.

I really don't like the Iodines - either for looks or function. I have known riders get taken down when branches go in between the spoke gap as it's quite large whereas the normal wheels with 28/32 spokes just deflect those branches away. Not made up rubbish either, this really has happened and yes I know it happens to normal wheels as well but these do appear more prone to it happening.

right... well, i've gone for the following:-

Hope Pro II Evo hubs with conventional lacing (so i can get replacements easily)
15mm front adapter
DT Comp DB black spokes
Brass nipples
Stans Arch EX (white) rims

cost about £330.00 all in, which is about £15.00 more than the best net price for Hope Hoops Flows or Crests wheels with straight pull, but I wanted the Arch EX rims as they seem to be the ideal middle point between Crests and Flows.
