What Mudhugger style rear guard? Low seat stays.

My Orange Stage Evo has seat stays that are a lot more horizontal than a traditional diamond frame. This means my existing Mudhugger guard would stick up at a jaunty angle, but also pushes a long way towards the seat tube so the wheel fits in the curve of the guard.

I think this is a problem that will afflict other full suspension frames, so must have been solved before. What is the recommended guard to save me from the filth this winter?

SKS Mudrocker on my Orbea Rise, don't know how the stays compare with your Orange? I know the STW review didn't rate it but I get on ok with mine . Just regularly check the straps are cinched up ( or just use zip ties) Yes it rattles a bit on rough ground but I would have thought they all do ?

Not really. They've been around like that for years. So utterly hideous and nasty that you just know that they must work outstandingly well or nobody would ever use one.

Even I,  who generally couldn't give a flying **** what my bike looks like, find them deeply  offensive to the eyes. But still use them

I've got a gravel WinWing, I'll check the angle adjustment holes are sufficient to make it sit right. Good idea.

Hey, I bought an Orange. An elegant aesthetic isn't a primary concern for me! 🤣

Ugly maybe can't argue there , but A ) Can't see it when I'm riding

B) My ass stays dry , if aesthetics are a thing for you in mid winter (wet ass) crack on 👍

Some pictures of a Large MK2 Rear Mudhugger on my Orange Stage Evo (fitted approx. a couple of years ago) on this thread. Maybe the isometric picture in the thread helps?

Mudhugger on an orange or other bike with no seat stays

Oh cheers for that Nick. I'll give that a go, looks no more ridiculous than it did on my hardtail after your mods!

Nice bike by the way. 😎

The angles on the mountain bike one have been tweaked to suit mtb frames I think, so it's not just a wider gravel one, as it were. It's on my autumn shopping list as the gravel one works so well. The gravel one won't fit my FlareMAX, but I'm hopeful that the mtb version will.

It's also a shedload less ugly than a Mudhugger, though the comments below the recent STW review seemed to think it was hideous. It does have the big plus of being removable in seconds, while a Mughugger - effective though it is - requires the snipping of about 8 billion zip-ties, at least mine does.

Good to know, but I'm going to try the Mudhugger mods first as that's zero cost. 👍

I take it the ( justified ) plug ugly comment poster realised there was a bike stand in my photo? 😉

Just remembered someone from this place told me about these for bikes with low seat stays. Can't comment on robustness/ease of installation as my adapted Mudhugger is still going strong after 2 years.

Not long enough so I extended mine and also a little flimsy (mine broke where it joins the mount)

Surely the answer is a decent set of waterproof trousers
