You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Yesterday's ride , as usual , finished with my legs soaking and filthy despite using a Crud XL. I don't seem to be able to find a front guard that keeps water and crap off my legs. Any suggestions to cover a 2.4 tyre?
On an MTB, I don't think there are any. All my mates have moved to wearing trousers
Learn to manual through the puddles
As ayjaydoubleyou says really. I have bodged some up to be not bad - mudhugger long with extension plus a frame mounted one low down on the downtube. Still only just about works
Closest you'll get on an MTB is per picture IMO.

Its not perfect, mid shin down gets it still, but I think thats as far as you can realistically go.
Optics are horrible, I hate it, but the pros outweigh my vanity by some margin.
I use RRP Proguard, they are very good, you can get the max version which is slightly longer. Solid when attached.
Nothing stops your legs getting spray from puddles except waterproof long socks or trousers. These things are glorious along with waterproof boots. Ploughing through puddles and staying warm and dry is fantastic.
Why do rear mudguards always look so much worse on an MTB than on a roadie? Throw fenders on the roadie no worries and it looks... fine. On a mountain bike it just looks wrong even though they work brilliantly
Trousers.
Some good prices Here at the moment, these just arrived this week for me and they’re awesome. They also had a different brand at £50 but I don’t recall

Just don't look at it.
I have SKS veloflex . Had to put an extender on but they work a treat.

My RRP Proguard Max can’t keep my legs dry, although it does a wonderful job of keeping the crap out of my face.
Even the SKS longboard on my commuter bike can’t keep the spray off my feet!
Those veloflex look pretty good.go to 65mm wide now too.
You’ll need it to extend well below the axle line, and wrap under. maybe a flap too.
With full length guards down to 20cm off the ground on my rigid MTB, still got muddy trousers and shoes. Added a flap down to 10cm off the ground and it keeps them clean.
you can see the angle at which the front covers by looking the downtube- without flap then still wet feet. (29x3" Tyres)

This is different bike (same fork) 29x2.6 and this low then very clean feet - though since have trimmed this back as was knocking things:
