You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
The scenario is as follows:
I have to go away all week for work.
I need to take ooh, 40-50l of stuff at a guess.
I would like to take different good bikes depending on my whim.
I intend to go riding during the evenings whilst away (hence wanting the good bikes).
It has to go on my back.
The journeys won't be long, 7 miles is probably the longest.
I do not want to be fixing racks etc to my bikes because none of them apart from the commuter have rack mounts or are even suitable - I don't want tons of stuff on one of those seatpost mounted racks - my poor seatpost has enough work to do holding my fat arse up.
I think traditional walking or climbing rucksacks of this size are a bit stiff and chunky for this job - never really liked cycling with them. I do have a Lowe climbing rucksack that claims to be 50l but the main load space is barely big enough for my shirts and computer, most of the stuff has to go in the top under the lid which isn't great.
Don't say 'take less stuff'. I've already got the stuff whittled down to a minimum.
I've been using a holdall which, as it turns out, has rudimentary straps on its base for back carrying, but it's a little, well, unstructured. Might be ok, but I'm interested to see if anyone else has any ideas.
I use a north face "base camp" duffel bag. Has a shoulder strap, handles and straps like a rucksack, is basically indestructible (I've done 10 years of travelling with it so far) and come in a load of sizes and colours, but I suppose may be not quite what you're looking for if your holdall isn't going to cut it.
