The thing I dislike most of all about riding in this weather is my calves getting splashed with cold water and mud. Too warm for tights.
Sealskins waterproof or something else? Sealskins might fill up?
When it’s proper cold I just put some rugby socks over my merino socks. Jobs a good un’.
Edit: posted before I finished. I don’t get cold legs so usually wear shorts all year round and only double up on socks when it’s - temps. . I find the acrylic material resists splashes but will get soaked if it’s raining heavily.
+1 although I tend to go for football socks. The sondico ones from sports direct are actually ok for the money.
Pick up a pair of long running socks from decathlon, of even just the calf sleeves. You’ll get a bit of compression benefit too.
Chrome merino socks for me.
SealSkinz knee-high waterproofers for me when it's cold and/or wet out.
Top tucked under my kneepads which keeps the soggy stuff away from the top and they're great. Normally available on-sale somewhere, I'm not sure I'd pay the £45 rrp on them.
Weather like today, i.e. wet, but not that cold, I wear mid length sealskins and Polaris calf length knee warmers. Get full coverage, but not too hot.
On cold days it's knee length Sealskin a socks which have a woolen knee bit at the top. Toasty and dry.
