You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Options are ...
1. (Pre) dawn ride. Up and out at 6/6.30 am. First hour or so ago in the dark, but the sky lightening. Head somewhere high up locally for sunrise, back in time for breakfast. Solo ride. Will get 1.5 - 2 hours riding time guaranteed.
2. Early afternoon ride. Possibly with mates (but not guaranteed that timing will work for us all). Likely limited to 1.5 hours max. Risk of getting eaten into by general family stuff.
Help me make up my mind ...
(Oh. And what bike? Gravel/SS MTB/FS?)
What's the weather going to be like where you are?
I'd go option 1, provided it won't be completely brassic. You are guaranteed riding, whereas option 2 has the potential to be cut short/ binned off completely. Gravel bike would involve less faffage for me, YMMV, as they say.
pre-dawn gravel.
Longer ride and if gravel potentially less faff, + more distance than if MTB. Do all your faff this evening apart from your drink and lay your clothes out, undo the shoe laces etc. might I suggest a post evening meal ride (tea or dinner depending where you live or are from) - so, late evening into night, 7-10 = more riding and more chance of mates joining?!
I'm in Leeds. Forecast is 7°c, cloud/broken sun (when it rises). Same as afternoon (will get up to 13°c)

That works during the week (and sometimes Sunday evening), but have friends over tomorrow evening, so it's either of the other options (or leave until Sunday, but as rain is due, not my preferred option ...
Early one, no question. You can then be at home by 10am with a coffee, a bacon sarny and Saturday Kitchen feeling very smug. This is partly why I love Parkrun so much.
I'd go with the morning ride but ss mtb (presumably hardtail). It'll be quiet, you get a sunrise and there's bound to be a fun descent involved!!

Yes. HT. But rigid fork. Which makes the fun descents more of a mincing challenge. And to get to the best local spot for a high-up sunrise involves quite a significant tarmac drag.
Consensus seems to be morning anyway, which is where I was heading.
Followed everyone's advice. Out at 6.30. Back by 8.30. Rest of the day ahead.
