noooiiiccce but about £100 more than we wanted to spend
...and worth every penny; light weight easy to ride with a great resale price
..go there you know your lad is worth it!
Might be £100 more than you want to spend, but the bike will probably only cost you £100 in total - ie. you'll probably only lose about £100 on it when you sell it on.

Very sensible!
bloody Islabikes! 😛
They're made in Vietnam, you know... 😉
Has nobody suggested a mini race BMX yet? 🙄
Get the Trek, a great bike and VERY adjustable (much more so than an Islabike), Ours went round Swinley Forest before I sold it on. Kona and Specialized also make nice 20" wheeled bikes. You can't go wrong really, but won't find much worth buying below about £180 new.
EDIT: Looking at the current bike, is that a 12"? The correct progression is 12-16-20-24-26, but if he's big, he may still fit on the Trek. It has double drilled cranks for short legs, and the bars can be rotated backwards. You may need to adjust the reach of the brakes carefully, however.
gary fisher precaliber 20
Not sure you can get these anymore, great bike though, light and great geometry, my 8 year old is still on the 20, the top tube is a lot longer than most, so plenty of growing space. I looked at the Isla bikes, way to pricey for something that gets chucked around, and borrowed by mates that are a lot less caring. I also looked at kids Scott, Kona and Cube, all good bikes but to be honest my son preferred the colour of the crayfish, as he calls it, I think it's important they have a part in choosing, unless it's a Ben10 bike from Asda 😉
Another Islabikes vote, all my three ride them. Good resale value too.
I've recommended these a number of times on here

My daughter has the girly one. They're a really decent bike. Light, well-made, good spec SRAM drivechain, decent Suntour forks. She absolutely loves it and has recently taken to christening it at Lee Quarry
At that price its a steal. Way better than than similar bikes from Specialised etc with a similar spec
NBT might just have salvaged chrimbo, subject to loo-dick-er-russ offer.
SpangleSpack is AWESOME.
I'm feeling the love right now.
The Merida kids bikes are good value and come with QR wheels and decent kit.
Frames tend to be a wee bit smaller than others for the same wheel size which can work to your favour or not whatever.
Most of my sproggs group are riding them round bits of the Drumlanrig red trail on our monday night sessions so I know that they'll do dirt pretty well.
Same as binners, get a Carrera Blast. Alpine bikes had a 20' Trek (MT60?) and it's almost EXACTLY the same frame but about twice the price
Some dick hasn't hailed all Islabikes as unbeatable in quality, weight and value for money yet. 😛aracer - MemberHas nobody suggested a mini race BMX yet?
I have my sons Gary Fisher Tyro for sale - 24" wheel size
I bought it for him when he was 7 and he has now just moved on to a 26" wheel 18" frame Trek.... he's now 12 and catching me up at 5'6"
I can take pics of the actual bike but the catlaogue pic is this one.
Open to offers
If he's on a 12 you want to look at 16" wheels, they are quite a step up in size. A 20 will be massive.
Having had a good look around earlier this year, Giant do some good value kids bikes. We got a 24in XTC (?) and it's been great. no problems
what brassneck said, I need a 16incher [s****s]. NBT/Binners have failed me massivley and will promptly be removed from the chrimbo list 🙁
So far, Amazon/JE James are looking good.
Hi Frankers,
Just wondering if your son's bike is still for sale? I am looking to buy a bike for my 8 year old son, who has well and truly grown out of his current Gary Fisher! If you could let me know what sort of condition it is in and how much you are looking to sell it for, that would be great. It looks like we live in the same part of the country.
Many than
Damn! Off the Christmas card list! S'not fair 🙁
In that case I believe one of these is the done thing. A few quid off RRP here too
