This is for my sis in law who is doing a trek in Vietnam which includes a 50 mile bike ride. The organisers mentioned panniers or handlebar bags but this seems a bit ott to me?

Depends on the terrain, large rucksacks when riding can be a nightmare. For that amount of kit though I'd be looking at an Osprey sack with the 3L bladder in.

Is that a back pack? She is not wanting anything on her back so I was wondering about a frame bag but wasn't sure if it would be big enough.

What kind of camera? I get an SLR with lens plus regular bike kit and can squeeze in a waterproof if rolled up small into a HAWG NV.

But that's on the back. It's not a huge rucksack, just a big camelbak. I don't really notice it much when riding. Fill it full of water and it's getting heavy.

Used it for a number of singletrack rides including trips in Wales (Afan,CYB etc). I also often use it skiing.

Trying to convince on the backpack and bladder but she is adamant it has to be a frame mounted thing. Also it will only get used on this trip and then chucked in the garage.

Can't you get her to do a couple of trial runs with a Camelbak or similar to see how it works for her?

Wingnut or one of those lumbar camelbak bags? Charge LR?

If it's just for one ride, how about one of those large triangular frame bags? Presumably she'll only need a thin waterproof as it'll probably be warm, just wet?

Cheers all, I am staying with her at the moment and have my camelbak here so will get her to pop it on.

Depends on the kind of riding anyway. If it's touring style then maybe old school panniers isn't so crazy. Maybe not on an MTB though, more because it might not fit well.

I'd go with a frame bag.

A handlebar bag is very handy for a camera, as you can take it out while sitting on the bike. Or a top-tube bag (tri-bag) can work for a small camera. Though make sure it has enough padding.

Or a rack, with a small rack-top bag.
