Not likely with a wishbone and a dropped top tube like that, I'd say.

3rd pic - Dent in the top tube? And, not sure the headset is fitted properly!

Oh, and welcome!

I'd say that was paint as opposed to the thing being out of shape. Hard to tell without actually seeing it in the [s]flesh[/s] metal.

Edit : Definitely paint, you can see a small splodge on the bottom cup, too. DIY job?

Is there a frame number? You can sometimes narrow it down with the number format.
Or sometimes it is just random, but worth a look.

I think it's overspray, not a misfitted headset.

Top cup looks to have a slight gap under it. Might be due to being repainted, but does not look like a flush fit.

Not a massive problem, but getting it faced and refitted would be a quick job if it bothers you now you have seen it!

Yep, just had a zoom in, and it does just appear to be paint.

Looks like a giant boulder 05/06 frame and yes they had a wish bone seat stay

It feels very similar to a rock lobster I had in the mid 90's (which was steel) but a lot of the features remain

Good point re wishbone, but didn't the XTC have gussets on the top and down tubes at the headset junction?

Perhaps a Giant Boulder of similar vintage?

Not sure the xtc/boulder had the dropped top tube relative to the seat stays, though.

My head keeps shouting 'Shwinn' but I can't find anything that matches that toptube and the headtube welds...

OP, was it sold as anything in particular?

Great deal for all that! I am not getting anything with the frame number, so unless someone recognises it it may remain as an unknown!

Hi mate,

Might be a good idea to try and search it using the mech hanger which I'm guessing is this one. http://www.gear-hanger.co.uk/info/alloy-rear-derailleur-dropout-mech-hanger-rmm220/160/

It's not an old Giant, the mech hanger is wrong.

Could it be a Muddy Fox of some sort?

A bit like an aluminium version of this (Sorcerer Mega):

[img] [/img]

Head tube & cable mounts are reminiscent of these (a late 90s? Silverfox SFX 7500):

But that has twin seat stays and the drop-out is different:

Just a thought...

The seatstay yoke and rack mounts scream Giant to me, but the mech hanger and TT cable stops don't.

It looks like it wasn't meant to run forks that long.

Could be one of many generic badge-brands like muddy Fox etc.
