Every suspension fork I've owned seems to get progressively stiffer/harsher. I think it's air getting into the lowers as I can use the zip tie trick to burp some out and it's fine again. But not for long. Drives me nuts.
Actually not quite every fork. The Bluto on the fatbike was so linear that I'd regularly blow through the travel and that didn't seem to do it. So maybe that's the answer. You need to bottom the fork out regularly or they just get progressively more harsh. Still seems like a design flaw though.
Used to have a set of revelations that instead of pumping up the lowers, pushed extra air into the negative spring, that was interesting, you'd reach the bottom of a descent and discover the reason the bike felt weird was it had sucked down 100mm of its travel
I've never really found it to be a thing really.
never happened to me either. You must have a faulty seal somewhere for that to happen
It happened to me once. Came into the garage and the to seal had blown off.
That's the weird thing about it. It clearly doesn't affect everyone, although there are a few threads about it online, so I'm not unique. But it has happened for me on pretty much every fork (bar the Bluto). Revs, pikes and floats, although pikes seem to be the worst. It must be something I'm doing, but I can't figure out what.
I do my foam 'O' rings every 6 months or so and dont seem to have that problem. I do notice the oil needs topping up however.
Just how often are you doing it for it to drive you nuts. Or are you especially sensitive ?
