About £2000 in Warrington !
Well done judge.
Anything over £350, based on home insurance policies. If you need more cover then it's a higher value item.
I'd say around £500 is relatively high value for a bike in the real world outside of cycling forums. Most people would probably see that as extravagant.
I believe the average price of a new bike in the UK is around £500. Therefore, anything abve that could be considered "high value".
Bloody hell, someone getting a spell in clink for stealing a bike. Fair play to the magistrate.

Unless you insure with NFU where that is not the case. Had a £800 payout last year with no specific bike or high value cover.
Nice! Dont think that's the norm though, but happy to be corrected.
£350 is a wheel. That’s when you know you’re in deep with bikes.
Chainring dear boy, chainring.
“£350 is a brake lever.”
How much are Trickstuff brakes?
£1100 ish a pair. Though you might get lucky with the VAT man.

Need to check whether the magistrate has a Strava account 😉

Wasn't that figure from some independent bike store survey? I can remember seeing (some years ago) that IBDs were just under 400 quid and across the industry it's about 120-140 quid. No idea how e-bikes skew those figures though, because it's long enough ago that most e-bikes probably still had nicads...
A SELFISH thief who helped himself to a high-value bicycle belonging to someone else
not sure it was necessary to point out that the bike belonged to someone else, but at least the reporter was being thorough
So basically if you claim it's caused emotional distress they get a harsher sentence, high value could mean it means a lot to the owner, and 2k is a lot to spend for some people, hopefully it's the start of thieves actually being dealt with approximately and the law stops treating it like it's a toy that's been nicked and barely make an effort.
I'd have made it 18 months though not weeks.

Is that the mean or the median price? The data will be heavily skewed so median would be more representative.

Probably a gavel grinder
(yes, I know they don't use them in criminal courts)
Bloody hell, someone getting a spell in clink for stealing a bike. Fair play to the magistrate.
I read the story and wondered who's bike he'd stolen - maybe someone known to the Magistrate?
Or maybe he's got history and this wasn't reported.
Where are they finding a Nukeproof Mega retailing at £2k?
Probably a gavel grinder
In the story it said it was a Nukeproof mega. Which usually cost more than 2K
Sort of related, but I found out recently that a local high-end road bike specialist's average spend on a new bike and matching accessories is getting close to £20k. TBF, their showroom is more Porsche Dealership than LBS. Utterly absurd.
Prologue in Harrogate? Can believe it.

One coffee and a slice of cake will cover half that.
To think, when they first opened, the plan wasn’t to sell bikes…
Steve_b77, you clearly missed my PSA from 3 months ago 😀
