So, despite using tubeless ready tyres on rims with a bead hook, I am wanting to create a really tight fit- so that in the eventuality that I suffer a puncture that won't seal, and/ or can't be arsed, I'll still be able to push (or ride) the bike the remainder of the journey without fear of the bead breaking away (obviously making the repair job a lot more involved and frustrating).
Suggestions please? ...I have been looking at single-sided self adhesive closed cell foam tapes (neoprene etc.), to go over the tesa rim tape, as I suspect they may fit my application. They're available in lots of different widths and thicknesses, so I was hoping that if anyone had tried these, they could perhaps shed some light on what has and hasn't worked for them- how much does the foam compress, too much to be of any real benefit, or is it just a case of sourcing a denser/ thicker product?
Much appreciated if you've read the aforementioned and are able to feedback your experience or any other solutions for consideration?
That's basically the reason I started using tyre inserts, albeit due to the bead burping when cornering... additional benefits of the tyre insert approach are rim protection and the insert acting as run flat support if the tyre is punctured.

Beyond all that, I'd imagine what you're suggesting would make getting tyres on and off an absolute ball-ache
I'm not sure that bulking up the rim tape will answer your brief. I think it will only make fitting removing tyres a right pain. Sounds like you want an insert instead so you can 'run-flat'.

So in the event you get a puncture which can't be sealed you want your flat tyre to be held tight on the rim so when your get the bike home to repair it you can break the bead there instead since the same (small easy and quick to use) tool you'd try in the workshop without demounting the tyre is the one which didn't work by the trail?

Most inserts will do enough to keep your tyre bead in place with no air in the tyre, they'll also increase your chances of not ruining your rims riding the flat, unlike tape.
