My lad has pretty much outgrown his Met Elfo, so needs a new lid.

Do I stick with the infant-style hats, like the Met Genio, or go for BMX piss-pot style (CRC have the very cool Kidimoto styles in stock), something more XC racer, or a cross between the 3. Uvex Hero takes my fancy as I've an Uvex and the ratchet buckle will be easy for little fingers to cope with.

And yes, I know, whatever fits him... Need to measure his head anyway.

Just wondering if a hard shell BMX style would make more sense as he's unlikely to need quite so much ventilation, and also more likely to fall over a lot.

Both mine have had Giro Flume lids from about that age... They like the flames!

Flume for my son too. Fits really well with a good adjustment range.

My daughter has a kiddimoto piss pot lid but they size up really big and the adjustment range isnt as good. Looks cool though for a fashion conscious 8 yr old.

Bell Fractions for my two, loads of cool styles and kid friendly sizing. Each one has come with a good range of pads too, so easy to adjust as they grow.

You may want to check weights before buying, kids helmets seem to vary quite a lot, especially the pi$$ pots. Cratoni was the lightest I could find.

Flames are good (his Met Elfo ihas blue flames)
But so is light weight.
Measured his head, and he's just on the cusp of most manufacturers sizing, so need to make sure I can get him one to "grow into"

Uvex looking strongest contender at only 200grams.

Just to clarify are we talking about a 4 or 5 year-old or a 45 year-old? 😀

If its a 45 year-old not sure he'll want flames on his helmet (so to speak)

Actually what am I saying everyone should have flames on their lid.

wearing without complaint has never been a problem. Its what he does: ride a bike, wear a helmet. He really notices anyone riding without one, very aware that they could hurt their head if they fall off and bang it.
which is good 🙂

Good to hear 🙂

I'd steer clear of BMX/p!sspot style lids as they can move around and are heavy. Flume etc as posted above are good and as you say, ratchet and buckles are easy for little fingers.

fit is king as you know - try some on in a shop and let your kid pick the colour.
