Thinking I should upgrade my helmet light. What do we suggest?
Not too expensive since the Magicshine on my bars is my main one.

Cheers,

Mick

What sort of riding are you doing? I personally find my helmet light the more important one for trail riding so I've spent more money on it (Exposure Joystick)

I'm with the comment above, and also use an Exposure Joystick (bloody awful name though) - great light and good enough to use on its' own if you want

It's for Peak District MTBing.

Not considering Exposure because my mate is having so much hassle with his.

<£50

Moon Vortex Pro. Have had one for a few years now, and it's been faultless. A good middle ground between paying the Exposure premium and playing the eBay bargain basement lottery. I think I paid less than £40 for mine. I've also got three different Moon rear lights and they're all good.

The road.cc beam comparison tool suggests the beam is very similar to the Joystick, but a little bit tighter and brighter.

This is down to personal preference and the differences between how our brains process visual information I think. I know people who swear by lid lights, but I cannot use lid-only - even though I can see everything I can barely ride. So it's main light on bars for me and the lid for seeing round corners. It has to be much dimmer than the bars though otherwise the shadows go and I'm lost.

Just bought a Halfords 500lm for my lid - not used it yet though, I'll let you know.

For a spot I use a 10 quid spot from ebay. It has usb so a small (or large) power bank necessary as dictated by ride length.

If looking for something without the pain of a battery pack then maybe try something like this

That links to a 50 lmn light - which I would say isn't enough for mtb, unless you're not riding with anyone who has decent lights and you are running something equally weak on the bars.

I;ve just ordered the Halfords 1600lmn one for £50 plus a £5 helmet mount. Seems a bargain for the power. It may proove to be a bit heavy but it'll get passed to the kids bikes (bar) if it is.

Just used my Bontrager Ion Pro. Great light at £88, the handlebar remote is an added cost though.

I'm in a simiar position. have a bikehut 1600 on the bars, and was going to break out my 12 year old home made triple cree R2/lumicycle thing as a helmet mount. However I'd rather not as it required me to stick a battery in the backpack.

are there any reasonably priced all in one helmet mount lights that provide more of a focussed penetrative beam? The bikehut light provides all the flood I could need.

for offroading in twisty woodland singletrack. under the cost of the halfords light would be a bonus.
