Right, following on from this thread I'm going to get an angleset and give it a go.

However, being dim I can't figure out which one I want. I emailed Superstart and Works - SS replied with a proforma response which didn't really answer my question, and WC never replied.

I have a 1.5" head tube currently fitted with an FSA reducer headset, both cups are external.

Do I need a 49mm one? I assume so. The only ones I can find are zero stack upper ones - is this okay? I presume I need ZS49/EC49?

Oy, it was much easier when you just went and bought whatever headset the local shop had and lusted after a Chris King one you could never afford...

I’ve always found the hope guide helpful.

If you have already got external cups then that’s what I would go for again, if you go for a zs top you will also probably want an extra stem spacer.

Try contacting WC again: they got back to me pretty quickly when I had a query a few weeks ago. WC do a ZS49-ZS49 for straight steerer fork - but I'd get the ZS49-EC49 and a reducer crown race so you can replace your straight steerer fork with tapered when it dies.

You presume correctly, if it's a tapered steerer you need EC bottom, although gravity did do a ZS bottom for tapered but it used a small
balled bearing race instead of cartridge bearings.
The EC upper was strange and unnecessary, why they made them is a mystery.
Straight or tapered steerer, as above keep it EC49 at the bottom.
