I have some Reba 29ers and a couple of weeks ago I reduced the travel following peterpoddys guide unfortunately the lockout is no longer locking out.
Have I missed something?
Hmm. The lockout is in the other leg, so adjusting the travel alone shouldn't affect it.
Did you change the damping oil at the same time?
Was that part of your instructions? If not how do I do that?
Initially I thought it was because I hadn't put enough oil in the bottom of the legs (step 15) but had them apart again and it's ok.
lockout depends on the integrity of seals and oil in the top of right leg. If all you did was pp's guide, you won't have touched it. Perhaps it was a coincidence?
Are you getting full travel on them now? If not, it will be a seal in the right leg letting the motion control oil fall into the bottom, hence no lockout and fork 'botttoms out' on too much oil in the bottom of the right leg.
Also the blue spindle on 09/10/11 forks with poloc or pushloc is a bit particular about exactly how you set it up, meaning it doesn't want to lock out unkless the cable is just right. Did you disconnect the locout lever when you took them off/apart?
Yep, Julian has just suggested what I was hinting at. Could be an oil leak in the damping leg, purely by coincidence.....
Loco sell the seal that sits between the damping cap and the moco unit. You could also try and take the moco unit out and put it back in again as mine had some sort of airlock after a service and works fine now.
I also recently followed PP's guide (Thank you Peter) extending the travel on my Reba Race forks (26'')
I noticed that the LO function only partailly worked after extending the travel from 100mm to 115mm.
I reset/played with/messed with the Gate after a few minutes all worked again as it should 🙂
Travel is the same locked and unlocked. I don't have a remote lockout attached. I've fiddled with the lockout and gate to no avail.
What you suggest as a course of action?
Firstly, let all the air out and check you're getting full travel.
If you're not, damping oil has leaked into the bottom of the right hand leg and is preventing the fork reaching full travel wilst at the same time meaning there's no oil in the Motion Control and thus it won't lock out. (Lockout is hydraulic not mechanical)
If it has, you'll need new O rings in the base of the damping cartridge, which is easy to change
Either way, you'll need to poen the RH leg up and check the oil. Might as well change it anyway. Just unscrew the top of the leg, tip the oil out and replace (Pump the fork to drain ALL the oil) IIRC it's 115cc in a Reba 🙂
That said, I've heard that if a fork is stored upside down for a while the oil can end up in the wrong place, and simply by keeping it the right way up and using it, it'll drain back down.
Cheers for that.
I'll check out the travel with the air out.
PeterPoddy, your other google doc on poploc would contain the necessary info for the MoCo removal? What oil should I put in the MoCo?
I'll let know know how it goes...
Have a look for the correct year document here:
