Rear nevegal is past its prime so before I just slap another on, I thought I'd ask around.

What makes a nice front or rear to go with it? The tyre is a 2.1 ust and most of my riding is in the peaks. Can't really go any wider at the rear but could maybe go a bit bigger in the front. Wondered if it might go nicely with a high roller or ardent up front.

Was always Blue Groove/Nevegal that was the correct combo. 🙂

So I thought but the blue groove seems to have disappeared some time ago.

Body armour for when the front end washes out?

Just slap a high roller on and be done with it.

Stickee Blue Groove front, DTC Nevegal rear.
Best combo I've ever used.

They do drag a bit though. 😕

Shame they dont do the BG in 29".

Not a lot of love for the nevegal then? I've found them predictable and robust. I'd be happy to buy another but just wondered if I should consider anything else.

I don't get the logic of the OP Q.

"this rear tyre works well. what front tyre should I use with it?"

erm...a front tyre that works well?

Currently running a pair of nevegal and happy enough with them. The rear is worn and needs replacing. It's an opportunity to try something else on either end was all.

Nevegals used to be much loved by the internet, but then the phase of the moon changed and they instantly became dangerous and terrifying, apparently.

Still I don't entirely understand the question. Are you looking for a front or a rear?

I'm now left with one nevegal. I can stick it on the front to go with a better rear, or on the back to go with a good front. Right now I'm considering a 2.3 ust nevegal to go on the front and put the 2.1 on the back.

I have a 2.7 Blue Groove on the front of my DH bike. It is a sight to behold.

Considering that the 2.5 Nevegal is the size of a 2.7 Highroller, that's a proper bit of one-upmanship

Onzadog... Assuming your nevegal is a DTC I'd stick it on the back, I like Nevegals but the DTC isn't a very good front tyre IMO, too pingy and a wee bit abrupt. Stick-e one works much better- but 2.35 Stick-e is too slow for most folks' xc taste I reckon.

(as an aside; I didn't like the UST ones at all, they seem less grippy than the standard ones and a bit deader too. I run standard ones tubeless and they've been spot on for me)

FWIW, and not really answering the question, a 2.1 Nevegal makes a great front tyre and about as big as Minion 2.35. on the back i found them draggy as hell though.. go for an advantage 2.1 maybe on back. SB8 if it's dry (hah).
