My (old) Troy Lee SE Pros are on their way out, so what are the gloves du jour to replace them?Â
I'm after something to wear in most seasons, that'll last, with some lightweight protection on the knuckles/ back of the hand. Whatcha got?Â
100% briskers
I use 100% Cognitos. Thin palm with no padding and D3O knuckle protection. I like 'em. 👍
Edit:
100% briskers
And them in winter!
huh, never heard of 100%, will check them out, thanks!
How's the quality/ longevity of them? And what sizes are you?Â
I was recommended Giro DND as the 'summer brisker' - ie, everything you need, nothing you don't, cheap and last well. Â
I've only been wearing them since start of spring but like them so far. Â Will see if they're a bit warm at height of summer.
I've got an enormous collection of 'pretty worn out' gloves and the DND avoid all the 'seem like a good idea but actually mean they fall apart' features. They DONT have:Â
- velcro cuff that sticks to everything in the washing machine and eventually fails in some way (whether stiching or the velcro itself). Â the've got a stretch bit to help you pull them on. Â
- bits of protective rubber 'armour' over back/fingers. Â Do nothing to protect your hands but start falling off almost immediately and end up littering the countryside. Â (Fox have been particularly guilty of this)
- very lightweight/mesh backs or sides to fingers that just don't last
Â
Those Giro gloves look great but they have the one unneeded extra that I find most annoying; an extra bit of padding on the palm that puts a lump under your ulner nerve...Â

I've got some Fox that have the same thing but I'm not sure I see the point.  I'm not convinced that any impact that would be enough for D3O to be necessary you'd be worrying about your knuckles.  I'd love something that stopped  your hands getting 'gorsed' in late summer.  but that seems far less knuckles and more outside edge of little fingerÂ

Any "what gloves" thread in winter gets 750 answers of "briskers!" 😀
It seems to be the go-to light duty winter glove. I find it perfect when it's below about 10c outside, down to a little below zero (for short rides. Below zero I might want something a little thicker for longer times). Basically all winter long in England at least.
As for both them and the Cognitos I find the quality very good. I have long fingers and size L is great, many other glove brands have the fingers too short for me.
Longevity is hard to gauge because I don't use them nearly as often as I'd like 😢 But seems good. My Cognitos are starting to show little ends of threads here and there, it seems to be elastic stuff not anything structural.

It's good for a "punching a tree" scenario and similar. When whacking something with my hand I tend to find the skin off my knuckles disappears first, D3O there would help with this. It's not to prevent broken bones or anything.
Sounds like you want handguards for gorse 😁
