I'm looking to get a garmin or any other device that works well for plotting routes and uploading files too.

It will be use on the mountain bike, ideally not a massive unit.

not fussed about fancy strava kom's etc.

cheers

Happy with my Edge Touring. Few niggles and doesn;t seem to like routes with lots & lots of way-points, but if you are mapping yourself you won;t have a problem (and if you DL and route online you can use BaseCamp to strip unnecessary ones out).

Lot's of threads on here with hints and tips as well.

Edge Touring here too. Have used it for several new (to me) mtb rides in the lake district and it's worked well. I've also used it to guide me on a ride up to the lake district on my touring bike. As Kamakazie says, it's not without it's faults but overall I've been happy with it.

Is the Edge Touring Plus worth the extra to get HRM compatability or is best to just use the Edge Touring as a navigation device and use my existing GPS watch for tracking the ride?

I could do with a navigation device for navigating the lanes round here so one of the Edge Touring's sounds like an option.
