Hi Chaps,

I'm after a GPS for loading GPXs onto to follow routes - I'm handy with a map and compass regardless, but it'll be nice to take a little of the focus away from navigation being able to follow someone elses routes - or to redo routes I've done in the past.

What Garmin would be best...? 705?

Cheers

Ricks

as above, 705 is 'obsolete' now.

I did exactly that really pleased with it, got the 800 with HRM and 1:50000 maps

For navigation, something like the Etrex 20 or Dakota 10 is good. You can use it for following a route, plus you can load free OSM maps.

Dakota does on and off road. Remember you don't get SatNav style routing off the road though.

The Edge 200 is workable for navigation, to be honest. It'll bark at you pretty quickly when you go off course. No maps, but if you have a smartphone or a paper map about your person somewhere then you have backup should you need to divert for a pie and a pint or for when you just arse it up cosmically.

It has the not inconsiderable advantages of being small and cheap.
