So if we were'nt looking to move house i'd be ordering a Capra, but if i did that instead of using that money to ease our moving costs id be moving out on my own.
I've a fairly burly 26" HT with 140mm forks that i'd like to swap over to a 6"ish frame for light DH based trails. Is an old Pitch my best bet? Is there anything else I should be looking at?
Pitch would be a good bet but remember that they only have straight head tubes so it depends on your fork's steerer.
Ah, I didn't even think of that. I've got tapered at the minute.
2nd hand covert..
Ariel is a good shout (I had one, it was awesome) and takes tapered forks....also see if NS Bikes will do the Snabb in frame only as it looks like a Pitch replica with a few modern flourishes.
It's a 650b but running 26 inch wheels won't affect the angles, it'll just drop the BB lower....which may be no bad thing if it's mini-DH bike behaviour you're after!....great mud clearance too.
In the appalling weather at last years Mega-Avalanche riders were putting 26 inch wheels in their 650b frames to avoid clogging up with mud.
Commencal also do some 26 inch wheeled bikes still, not sure if they're complete builds only though?!
Orange still do 26 inch Alpines and Fives as frame only.
26 certainly isn't dead, buy one and tear up the trails!
Bandit.
Thanks for the recommendations. I'll keep looking, i'd like it to be a fairly cheap stop gap because as soon as the moves over it'll not be long before I get myself a Capra or similar.
Specialized Enduro frame from 2010 onwards would be a good bet. There was a second hand one in the classifieds a few days ago for not much money
