Just interested - I've got Revs set at 130mm - it's a new build so just wondered what travel people have found best

Fox 140 TALAS meet the max axle to crown spec'd by Cove. @ 140 it works well for big Lakeland / trail center descents but for big climbs it needs dropping. For pootling around the woods 120 is probably betterer.

Possibly not altogether in the spirit of what Cove had in mind, but I've got coil Lyriks set to 130mm. I put them on while I serviced my Floats and haven't been inclined to remove them since. I drop them to 115mm for steep climbs, but for everything else they're top.

Revelation 100-130, then Fox R130, then Fox F120, then Reba 120mm 😉

Definitely best at 120mm. 130 makes the front feel too high for me, but probably because it's quite a short frame.

Pics ASAP, please 😉

Same as Kit but without the Fox in between, on my old HJ.

Reba 120mm with maxle and blackbox damping was perfect.

Kit - just need to chop the hoses down before it can appear here 🙂

Part of me has been wondering whether to swap the revs for rebas - ill have a play at 120/130 on the revs before I decide

Thanks for the replies guys

Had Fox Vanilla R 100 forks on up until I snapped the frame in a crash late last year. I think it was a 2005 frame.

Before the day is out I'll be slipping 'spotty dog' into a conversation 🙂

I'm building one up with 20mm maxle Revelations set to 130mm. I was concerned that the newer frames couldn't take a 130mm fork as the Cove website now states only up to 120mm forks should be used, so I emailed Silverfish and got the following response:

'Hi Olly the Handjob frames we have in our warehouse and have sent out to shops are able to handle a 130mm fork. However due to most forks being 120 or 140 Cove have dropped it back down to 120mm to avoid people “forgetting” to wind their 140mm forks down to 130mm… we’d suggest to run it with a 120mm fork as that way you can run a lighter fork and maximise on the frames agile characteristics'

FYI the 130mm forks with a crown to axle height of 510mm will give a head angle of 67 degrees.

Yea, Cove www now states max ride height of 510mm but it was previously higher, weird cos as far as I'm aware the frame ain't changed. 120mm does seem more normal on the eye than 140mm though.

The AtC for Handjobs has been 510mm since the new frame design in 2006 (prior to that, they were only rated for 100mm forks).

Going back to the original question, I ran my Handjob with 510mm AtC forks (140mm floats) and it was fine if a bit wandery on climbs.

I have old pair of 130mm bombers on mine, they are slighly over the max ride height.

I like it that way very much, great all round trail bike. I sometimes use the ETA thing to knock the travel down on tough climbs or racing.

My advice for 'normal riding' on a HJ is to go on the long side rather than short. I also like the idea of a through axle rather than QR on my next set of forks.

I thought the frame changed around 2010 when they moved to Tange Prestige tubing? The 2010 frame I've got looks quite different to the earlier ones.

Ahh, I was gettin forgetful, if 510 is a Fox 140 then that's what I worked to for my 2007 frame.

Aye, the material and tubing changed then but the AtC didn't.
