I have a Bfe on the way and I don't have any forks. I want to get something for less than £300 so I think a Rockshox Sektor is the way to go. But are they any good? I've never used one.

Also what's the difference between TK and RL? Yes, I've read all the online descriptions and it's mostly gibberish. I just want someone to hold my hand and tell me that I'm not about to buy crap forks.

These are the top two candidates so far

RL for £260 from Planet-X
TK for £200 from local(ish) bike shop

Any other models to consider or places to buy them from?

Thanks.

Damping is a bit basic on the TK, if my Recon is any indication.

Does the RL have motion control? That's still an old system. OK but not brilliant.

I'd hang on for a secondhand Marz 44 RC3 ti, they go for £300 or less and are just sublime.

Some very nice Revs from Merlin would be my choice:

Something with Compression damping. Neither of those Sektors. The 2nd hand RC3 Ti's would get my vote (I have them on my Soul, but converted to air and dropped to 130)

there's a new Lyrik in the classifieds for 400. That's what I run on my BFe.

Any PX fork will be 15% cheaper tomorrow (for one day only). I'd buy these though, they'll go up to 140, iirc.

I have a Sektor RL and it's ok. My old Pike felt better though. The Sektor has a bit of a weird feel to it. I've got a firm spring to see if that sorts it out but at the minute it just feels a bit "soggy" for lack of a better term! I prefer my suspension to feel stiff and controlled.

I have some Rockshox Sektor U-turn forks for sale – 110-150mm. Good condition. 1 1/8" steerer. £160 delivered? I think they're good forks, the right spring for your bodyweight is pretty key but I found for the money its a good bet.

I run X fusion slants on my Bfe and very impressed so the above look a great bet at £300. Mine are 130/160 but those I believe can be internally adjusted from 120 -160?

I've just ordered another set of sektors from crc, rl dual position jobs 243 less £10 thanks to a voucher off here. they're a fine fork for the money, but i might take more care of these ones as i've killed the last pair through neglect.

Most tempted by Merlins Revelations so far. Top end of the budget though. This was meant to be my low budget winter hack bike but it's all gone to pot! I was planning on buying a 'proper bike' in a few months.

Slants are better forks than revs IMO having owned rev RL, rev rct3 and slants. You'll not do better :-).

Just ride the BFe! The forks on a hardtail are critical though, so get the best ones you can. Those Slants look nice, I must admit.

Don't be surprised after riding the BFe for a while you put your 'proper bike' plans on hold; I sold my Five and now only ride a BFe. Great little frames.
