I have a set of the new Lyriks from the PSA last week. I intend to dropbthe lowers and replace the oil.

What is the correct oil to use in the lowers?

I normally use whatever tf tuned supply as lowers oil for a Lyrik, or last time from j tech tuning I had some Motul favtory line oil - they advised 7.5wt.

@guest1 - some folk enjoy the whole being helpful and answering the question. I guess it's part of the community thing.
Me, I like to ask on here, get a load of answers, Google the actual answer and then return here with pitchfork and flaming torch to slay those who deviated from 'the word'.

I use Fox Gold ... (on lowers on everything including my Lyrik Ultimates) .. Lower's aren't really sensitive and you can use any engine oil at a pinch with a sealed damper like the "real charger" but the Fox Gold is clingier and slicker than the RS relabelled engine oil.

On the new Lyriks you also need to decide if you keep the new crush washer on the damper side or retro fit the old style.

I need to do my new Lyrik too so watching with interest. I think I've got some Fox Gold from my stolen 36's but can't remember what weight it is.

I didn't realise there was a choice of crush washers. What do you need for a 2021 Ultimate?

I think all Fox gold is 20wt. JTech said they didn't recommend it (this was for my Ohlins though) and sold me Motul 7.5wt in a plain bottle for a lot less than branded bottle stuff.
I've used Auto gearbox oil in the past. Seemed fine.

+1 for Fox Gold, it seems to stay in place a lot longer than others.

Probably not true, especially if it comes into contact with plastic and rubber. You'd need fully synthetic to be certain no harm comes.

I used 5wt motorbike fork oil in my yaris, as its not used for damping don't think the weight of the oil matters too much. Just there to lubricate.

Unless you're rebuilding the damper...

There's a chap called Dougal in NZ who runs Shockcraft. He's actually put some time and effort into testing this. The best is Motorex Supergliss 100 which is hard to get in the UK. Fox 20wt Gold is a good second though.

In fact, his testing was so detailed that, IIRC, below 0°C the advise switches away from Supergliss 100 to one of the lighter weight versions.

From personal experience, the Supergliss 100 does feel better than anything else I've used.

Apparently, so slippery that it's not advised for older or cheaper forks as too much of it makes its way past the seals.

I use Motorex Supergliss 100 in all my current fork lowers. RS pikes, Fox 34, Mezzer, mattoc and junit.

@scruff motul 7.5w is far far too thin for lower lubrication.

if you've ever had an aftermarket reverb the pink hydraulic fluid has come a couple of times packaged as (IIRC) fork oil.
