I'm finally after a dropper for my 456 Carbon, it's been a while since I paid any attention to what is good and I've only ever had a reverb before. The reverb on my Jekyll annoys me because when you drop it the hose coils away from the frame.

I don't think I can route the hose internally, ideally I want the mechanism at the collar so the hose is static, but that leaves me with a list of brands I've never heard of and last time I bought a dropper they all basically broke didn't they, though that was 10 years ago now!

So want recommendations?

KS Lev, had one for years and it's been faultless. Will get a pic tomorrow

+1 for Brand X. I can’t see why anyone would spend more. They just work, and cost about £70. I replaced my Reverb with one and I think it’s much better.

brand-x the saddle moves quite a bit, but you rarely notice in use
whatever brand bird use, shipped on my Aether7... huge drop, internal cabling, v. little slop - but you did say external.

Are you brave enough to drill a hole in the frame for stealth routing?

If not, maybe a ks lev post with lever action under the saddle?

It’s a steel bike made from this scaffolding poles, just drill a whole at the bottom of the seat tube and get an internal Brand X dropper.

@zerocool, I think you need to read the title again 🙂

@paulrockliffe, I put a PSA up a few days back that has a few externally routed KS droppers going very cheap at Stif:

Thanks, those KS Levs look good, but one of the ones on offer has the manufacturer's blurb in the advert and it's going on about how great it all is for...... 2014.

They seem expensive for stock they've not been able to shift for a decade, there's no way any one was charging those RRPs back then either, that was like a month's wages or something!

I'm not saying no, but surely things have progressed since then and I'd be better with something more modern?  I suppose it's period correct for my Retro Ride at least.

Votes for the KS Lev vs a Brand-X one?

Hmm, I wonder if they are all that old -- the Dev doesn't say 2014?

That is damn cheap in any case -- as cheap as the Brand X currently is, perhaps cheaper

That's the one I was looking at, I needed to check it was long enough for my frame, which it is

Then I had concerns that it was a really old thing so popped back in to see what the consensus is.  There are user reviews for the DX from 2016, though I can't see anything for the all black one earlier than 2018.

The one I've pictured above works just as well as any other post - the lever is a bit meh, but they can be easily replaced

I drilled a hole near the bottom of the seat-tube on mine, so I can use an internal dropper and then run the hose along the downtube. Filed it out at an angle after drilling it, and put some resin around the exposed area before fitting the dropper. It's been fine, I must have done this about 5 years ago. It gets ridden aggressively

Interesting, how have you fixed the hose to the down tube? How does the cable run around the bottom bracket?

Ta.
