Hi all!
I just bought some forks which were going pretty cheap and got great reviews ... I was going to put them onto a Genesis Longitude 2016 (I think the only model with sus-corrected forks). Genesis said;
The new fork measures 483mm axle-crown with 51mm offset – i.e. suspension corrected for a 100mm 29”/27.5+ fork.
I just bought some Manitou Magnum PRO - 1.1/8" - 1.5" Tapered, 100mm travel and 15mm boost 27.5+. I thought I'd done well but just spotted that they are 44mm offset, whereas it's them 29ers which are 51mm offset.
Are they not compatible?
Thanks!
FM
Ok I googled this and people say it doesn't matter...
They’ll be fine. Shorter offset moves the front wheel slightly closer to you (7mm in this case) and increases the trail (how far the contact patch is behind the steering axis) by the same amount.
One reduces stability a tiny amount, the other increases it by a bit more.
Here's a really good article all about it. In fact, Transition reference it as being the inspiration for their new bikes SBG geometry:

Wasnt there a blind tests on on nsmb ,or somewhere & they couldn't notice a difference between offsets?!
they couldn’t notice a difference between offsets?!
You can bet your sweet arse that someone on here could! 😆
Bet I can. I notice the tiniest things. It’s really annoying...
Gary Fisher was pushing a greater offset (G2 geometry) on 29ers in an attempt to lighten the steering. Here's what you need to know:
