I'm off the bike and have been for 8 weeks and have another 12 before I can apparently get on it again.

I am able to walk again now but only for short distances and on smooth ground. I am going mad, I just want to get out and go for a ride on my bike. I even cleaned both of our cars last night because I couldn't go for a ride. I just don't know what to do.

Arrggghhh! Been there, doing that right now! Been on and off for three years with various knee troubles / surgery. The good thing is i've now worked up to commuting a few times a week (5 mile each way), but considering l was racing and training a couple hundred miles a week before getting injured, its killed me!

I tend to do a lot in the gym and swimming, with occasional surfing. I know this is a poor substitute but keeping active helps keep my demons at bay.

Last time I was off the bike for a significant period of time I had to make a conscious effort to not think about what I was missing out on, rather to focus on what I had an opportunity to do. Sounds a bit trite, but helped me - I read a lot, did gardening, diy, watched films, cooked, just generally hung with the family and chilled.

Can you sit on a bike? If so then use a turbo. Yes I know it can be boring but if that's all you got then do it. Been in this situation for 4 months and having the turbo has been whats kept me going till the first outdoor ride. Good luck.

strip bikes down. Give them a good service, upgrade some bits and have them ready for when I can get back on 🙂

Which reminds me, I need to sort out my front wheel and fork before my next ride so I don't smash up my elbow any more than it is...

I'm off due to a broken leg (in Jan) and having surgery on it 8 weeks ago when I found out I had broken it. I am not supposed to even get on an exercise bike until sometime in October so no turbo for me.

I have been thinking about going swimming but I don't have a swimming technique to speak of.

I am planning on stripping down my bikes and cleaning them but they are in pretty good condition mechanically so there isn't much point. I might just clean them and then build a wheel truing stand to totally knacker the wheels.

As for the car cleaning services, neither car has been cleaned on the outside for at least 12 months.

When I can't ride my proper bikes I ride my road bike instead. Probably won't help if you have a leg injury though!

If I can't ride my bike I play my guitar.

Guitars and bikes go well together.

Just had my 2nd ride back after 8 weeks of post op leave..

Hardest thing ever wa just to sit there and be able to look at my bikes, but not be able to ride them.

Couldn't even swim etc due to scars healing..

Hang in there, and avoid daytime TV...

Daytime TV well and truly avoided, I only had the day of the OP off work.

TBH I'm glad I can walk and drive now if there is ever any crap on the telly I can at least get out of the house. That's why the cars got cleaned last night.

I'm off for a scrounge around at work for some wood to build a wheel truing stand. Maybe use some old pallets.

What I should have done was cut down on food and focus on upper body as I was off the bike for 3 months in the end.

What I did do was bought this and ended up with another hobby but it's a lot of fun, on the road and track 🙂

My first few rides back have been very hard but I am now back into it and taking much more care of my hamstrings as that was pain I don't want again. Not yet back to the fitness I had pre-injury stamina is shot, but it's getting there, now I have to balance bikes and cars.
