Bike - Steel hardtail.
Fun, simple, rewarding, fun, cheap, challenging, fun.

Where - Big days out for preference. Hills. Very, very ****ing slowly.

Anywhere.

Preferably with an amphetamine descent and a bastard soul searcher of a climb.

I've long forgotten about whether it's the people, places or the bikes.

You?

Steel hardtail (Cotic Bfe). Like yourself, simple and fun. Less faff and spannertime.
North Wales, mostly Hills and "Classic XC". Occasional trail centres but prefer natural stuff 😀

Half a dozen different bikes.
http://www.blog.scotroutes.com/p/bikes.html

Lots of different place to ride.

At the moment though, I'm finding it hard to escape the allure of the Cairngorms.

Ride these (top of the page)
http://singletrackmag.com/forum/topic/show-me-your-bike-or-bikes/page/3

Currently in whistler with the Pretty one, have one big mtb holiday a year (last 2 years it's been whistler, before that the French alps, probably Italian Alps or NZ next year/ the future

Roadie holiday to north or west Majorca the last 2 years, this will continue for the foreseeable.

In the UK I tend to ride all the northern trail centres, throwing in very occasional peaks rides and a few naughty local trails near enough my doorstep. Occasional trips to North Wales too.

Steel hardtail.

Hong Kong, so mostly sweating until I can no longer tell whether I've wet myself, before bumping down some concrete steps.

🙂

Norco Fluid LT. Thai mountains where a 3 hour ride may only have 5 climbs but also 5 awesome descents.

At the moment I'm living on the flat plains of Houston, TX, so riding my Seven Axiom SL. Back home in NE Hampshire I ride my 26" Ti hardtail; it's simple and fun. Have a 26" FS but it doesn't really get a look in.

Alu fat bike, steel rigid 29er. Local Midlands riding, trying to avoid trail centres. Was content with this but last weeks Lakes holiday has opened my eyes to proper natural off road riding & now everything seems tame here. I did open up 2 lacerations on my arm on last night's ride so my local stuff still has the potential to injure me so not all bad

Just as a follow up to my post.

I ride close to home, much like most people I guess. You adapt your equipment and style to match.
i enjoy XC across the North Hampshire Downs. I guess many others would not.

Preferably with an amphetamine descent and a bastard soul searcher of a climb.

I don't know what this means.

Rigid Singlespeed
All rides are straight from my door in the New Forest. Non challenging terrain means a simple bike is best for all of it.

Cove G-Spot

Cwmcarn, Afan, Brechfa, BPW and with far less frequency Antor Stiniog, Coed and Llandegla, even less frequently the Alps and Whistler.

Mid-week I might be found between the trees (hopefully) at Castle Coch woods.

Live in Malaysia.
90% of my riding is in Jungle which is hot, humid, rooty and hard work.
I mostly ride ride a Carbon Bronson or Banshee Prime.
For more XC stuff outside the city I use a Pivot Les 29er.
Round town I use my Trek 69er single speed.
For real DH riding the best nearby is in Chiang Mai in Northern Thailand. X-biking are superb.
At 41 with 3 boys getting out can be tough but I HAVE to in order to keep sane.
Riding is riding but I never fail to smile when on my bike.
Cheers
Shiny

live 'oop north so pretty much anywhere around that region.
i used to do ride a lot of the natural stuff when i was younger but then found myself doing more at man made trail centres like Llandegla, Gisburn etc but now starting to mix it up a bit more
also do a lot of road commuting (5 days) so the mtb only comes out on the weekends

me and the guys do like heading down to BPW too....why ride up when you can use an uplift! 😀

got a 2014 Saracen Studio 74 hybrid for the road and a 2009 Giant Reign X2 for the mud

Canyon Grand Canyon SL 29er - never liked 29ers before this, can't imagine not riding one now.

Local trails for local people
plus SDW, ridgeway and other longer distance natural stuff.

Only ever been to one trail centre, not sure its for me tbh

ST FS 26 inch wheels. Local for me is North Third and Cambu in Stirling, love foray to Comrie Croft (a wee gem of a trail centre, feels very natural in parts and has good cake at the end), and anything in the Tweed Valley. Treated my self to an XC 29er for racing duties and doubles as a road bike pretty well on lazy summer evenings. Always loved borrowing my other halfs Cotic Soul, sad times now he's sold it.

Cotic Solaris ridden mainly straight from the door in North Leeds.

Although regular monthly trips to Bingley and Sheffield to mix things up along with two Scottish road trips (Torridon and Arran) to keep me sane. Off on a Lakes trip this weekend (Nan Bield and Sticks Pass).

I hope to squeeze some autumnal Peaks rides in too (Cut Gate and Ladybower Classic) and perhaps another trip further afield this year.

It's surprising what can be ridden on a 100mm noodley forked big wheeled steel hardtail. Although Torridon did feel like I'd bought a knife to a gun fight at times 🙂

Bikes:
Ridiculous 150mm travel 29er FS mincetank
Obsolete long travel 26er hardtail
29er XC hardtail (sometime rigid) which is much faster than me
Rather nice halfords hybrid

Where: Most often tweed valley.

Having wrecked my Sworks Epic I'm now on a Frankenstein Marin Rift Zone XC8. It's not as quick as the Spesh but is more fun. I still have a Haro Mary too. Steel hardtail 29er. Mostly winter duties so outfitted with mudguards.

Riding 'em mostly in Sutton Park, Cannock Chase, Peak District and Wales.
Happy to hook up with N. Birmingham riders if there's any out there.

I'll keep an eye out for you, F125. The social aspects make up for the terrible riding in the valley.

Mostly Alpine 160, N. Wales, day-to-day local riding in Bethesda area (woods and DH trails), but jaunts to Capel Curig and Llanberis too.

I do like the trail centres though for sociable rides (Penmachno and Marin), mostly on the Brodie hardtail
