That's cool. Also, I'm wondering what STW will find to complain about in the rather immaculate garden background

It was all just installed for the picture. 😕 That metalwork looks brand new.

Actually, zoomed in I can see unswept leaves, and God forbid even moss.

It's all brand new (air BnB to the rear of our property, there's a thread on here if you search). Just tried starting our leaf blower as we've guests next week and it won't start.... Typical!

As for more info, here's the original build thread from a couple years ago.
https://singletrackmag.com/forum/topic/new-bike-day-just-need-to-build-it-mk2/
I built it with intent for up to 2.1 29er tyres but they only just about squeeze in with about 2mm clearance. I also never got around to giving it a decent finish, so I'll do that this winter too.

Carbon done and mummified!

Not sure if I got enough BB/chainstay interface with the carbon tow..... But we'll see on the first ride with big tyres....

Also trying out an epoxy with a much slower set time. So I won't unwrap for a week...

Oh, also did a layer of 3k on top, just to try it out to see if I can get a cosmetic finish which is pretty tricky when your compression is using wrapped PTFE tape.

Looking at the picture I thought this was a thread started by cynic-al, but I now see even he is making worried faces.

@monkeyboyjc

Are you tempted to try and make a full carbon frame next?

I always wanted one of the ti tubing kits with carbon bonds. I liked the look of the raw ti with the black head tube, bb and rear drop outs.

I've been tempted, but time and money is a barrier. Also it's one expensive F'UP if it goes wrong.
Would love to do a steel frame building course though...

Took the PTFE wrap off last night, which was an absolute ball ache as I'd left it a little to long so now I need to pick off little bits here and there.
Over all the new carbon has taken well and the 3k weave looks good. I don't think I'll do much more than a cosmetic sand on the bb/chainstay area now.
I also need to sort a permanent sealant across the whole frame and tidy up the headline and seat/ top tube interfaces. When I laquered it last time it must have got damp in the garage as it didn't cure properly.
*edit - Will take photos later....

Nice. I'm struggling to get 700x38 but then you clearly did the planning with original build. Didn't think a dropped chainstay was possible with bamboo but now pondering rejigging mine.

The dropped chainstay, to be honest, wasnt dropped enough. I did it with a bit of guess work but I should have made at least the armature for it, with the chainset and wheel inplace - it doesn't actually add that much clearance where it is, as it needs to be about an inch lower.
Oh I'm also using (and have always used on this bike) mountain bike chainsets, race Face next at the moment but I designed it around a Shimano deore. This gives much better clearances for the tyres. It'd be really hard to do with GRX or similar.

I shave the corners off the tyre, not the frame!

Certainly more elegant than my approach.

The bastard file is coming out soon, see if we can't get a few more mm.

Carbon fibre might have been more the thing but why engineer when you can overengineer? 🤣
