I have a 500 x 2.5'' spring on an ibis ripmo and at 100Kg dressed I think I need something heftier - the shock is a DVO jade X. The only DVO branded 600 x 2.5 I can see available are light steel ones that are £100.
Is it a simple matter to get something generic that will fit - not sure how dimensions differ between manufacturers?
Was also wondering if you can accommodate a slightly different spring length - I can see a 600 x 2.25 available, would that be a bad idea?
I’ve always found DVO pretty helpful and quick to reply when I’ve emailed them with questions about my forks and shock. So worth dropping them an email.
Also there’s the Ripmo AF forum thread on Pinkbike which is good for asking this kind of stuff, quite a few regular posters on there running coils.
Generally you want to keep the length of spring to match the stroke of the shock.
Diameters vary manufacturer vs manufacturer. Dvo is 36.5mm. Fox is 35mm. Cane Creek Valt are 36.5mm I think. Rockshox is 38mm or something like that. Nukeproof springs are 38mm I think - but come with adapters for smaller diameter shock bodies.
So I’d have a look at Cane Creek Valt first - they’re pretty light (not as light as the fox Sls though) and sensibly priced.
Same 36.5mm inner I believe.
wasn’t there a psa for vault springs at airdrop bikes recently?
don’t fit a spring with a shorter length than the shock stroke.
Cheers all, will look at the valts.
i'm 92kg and i ride a 550x2.25 or 2.5 on my ripmo af dvo jade x. at 100kg i'd probably be going stiffer spring again
